Last week, we were delighted to welcome the Minister for Social Care and Mental Wellbeing Tom Arthur MSP to our office as part of 2025.

It was a great opportunity to discuss the work we’re doing as both a Living Wage and a Living Hours accredited employer, and how these accreditations help us ensure our staff feel valued and supported. Having been both the first social care employer in Scotland and also the first employer overall in Renfrewshire to have received double accreditation (both Living Wage and Living Hours) it is an area we feel very strongly about and will always encourage all to join.

We also had an open discussion on wider sector issues - including the challenges facing both providers and frontline staff and shared our thoughts on how the sector could be better supported moving forward.

We were also lucky enough to be joined on the day by 2 of our service users, who spoke honestly about the barriers they can face from out with our service and highlighted areas they feel could be further worked on at a Government level, particularly around budgets and local support.

Opportunities like this help shine a light on the realities of the sector and the changes needed to keep delivering high-quality care across our communities.
Thank you to the minister, the team at The Poverty Alliance and our brilliant service users (and of course their dogs Bertie and Milo) for all joining us on the day and making it such a productive and positive meeting.

This past Friday night, we came together to celebrate two incredible members of our team who have both recently retired after years of dedicated service.

Kenny and Linda have been integral parts of Visiting Angelz for over 10 and 8 years respectively and while they will be missed, it is an extremely well deserved retirement for them both. Between both of these natural carers, they have personally provided an amazing:

26,732 hours of care & support ⏰
to nearly 300 service users, in their own homes πŸ πŸ§β€β™€οΈ

It was an evening filled with laughter and even a few tears as we looked back on the impact they’ve made - not only to our service users, but on every one of us who’s had the privilege to work alongside them. Their kindness, commitment, and compassion have been a major part of helping shape our company into what it is today, and what they have left us with will always be part of VA πŸ’–

We want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts for all their years of hard work and the difference they’ve made in so many lives. Enjoy your well-earned retirement and spending more time with your lovely families, you’ll be dearly missed, but will always be Angelz πŸ˜‡

On Friday we sadly said goodbye to Charlie, a much loved member of the Visiting Angelz team.

I struggle to find the words that encapsulate this mans character. Gentle giant? Comedian? Compassionate? Yes, all of that...
I personally had the honour of knowing Charlie for over 20 years. He was a positive role model for me then and showed me what a true Nurse looks like. For the past few years, I was lucky to bring him onto our team and introduce him to our colleagues here. He was instantly loved by all! - Service Users and staff members alike. Charlie was extremely popular for his way of bringing light and humour into any situation and for his calm reassuring voice and advice.
All of our thoughts are with all of his family and friends.

We will miss you forever big guy.
All of our love from Angela and all here at VA x

We are delighted to become the first social care employer in Scotland to be awarded accreditation, to match the accreditation we have now proudly held for over 5 years.

The aim of the Living Hours standard is to ensure that staff have predictable working patterns and income, enabling them to better plan their lives.
We look forward to seeing fellow providers throughout the country join the scheme in the near future, as we continue to provide the conditions and security that those working in the sector deserve.

For the second Christmas in a row, our service users were each delivered lovely gift bags, courtesy of the amazing staff at HHillebrand Gori - A Company of DHL Braehead 🎁 Each of the bags were full of presents tailored to them, in what was (yet again) an amazing display of generosity.

A massive thanks to Tomasz, Craig, Michael, Jane, and every member of their team who helped with both taking part and planning such a massive, kind-hearted task. We truly cannot thank you enough on behalf of both our team and service users, and we hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and have a happy, healthy new year.

Thank you also to our Supervisor team, Fiona and Angela, for borrowing Santa's sleigh to ensure that dozens of bags full of goodies were sorted into areas and delivered to all of our service users in time for ChristmasπŸŽ…
