Last week, we were delighted to welcome the Minister for Social Care and Mental Wellbeing Tom Arthur MSP to our office as part of 2025.
It was a great opportunity to discuss the work weβre doing as both a Living Wage and a Living Hours accredited employer, and how these accreditations help us ensure our staff feel valued and supported. Having been both the first social care employer in Scotland and also the first employer overall in Renfrewshire to have received double accreditation (both Living Wage and Living Hours) it is an area we feel very strongly about and will always encourage all to join.
We also had an open discussion on wider sector issues - including the challenges facing both providers and frontline staff and shared our thoughts on how the sector could be better supported moving forward.
We were also lucky enough to be joined on the day by 2 of our service users, who spoke honestly about the barriers they can face from out with our service and highlighted areas they feel could be further worked on at a Government level, particularly around budgets and local support.
Opportunities like this help shine a light on the realities of the sector and the changes needed to keep delivering high-quality care across our communities.
Thank you to the minister, the team at The Poverty Alliance and our brilliant service users (and of course their dogs Bertie and Milo) for all joining us on the day and making it such a productive and positive meeting.
