Today is the 6th June - and in 1841 a census was taken. What were your ancestors up to on this day 184 years ago? My ancestors were all over the country but my 4x-great grandparents John Watson and Mary were close-by in Ramsgill near Pateley Bridge (only 4.5 miles from our shop), John was the village carpenter.
Note: the 1841 census is different to later censuses, it doesn't give as much information and ages were often rounded so not accurate.

Traditional family tree layouts can be overwhelming and take a lot of designing and printing – we use FamilyTreeMaker software to print a list rather than a tree with just born and died information before going for a big tree print. This is a quick way of seeing a draft of the generations – here is an example of the Whitfield / Metcalfe family tree of Middlesmoor in Nidderdale

On the 8th May this year is the 80th anniversary of VE Day – here is my photograph of the bittersweet celebrations back in 1945 in Esholt village near Guiseley in West Yorkshire (where my parents were born) after the 6 long years of World War 2 .
There was a street party and a fancy dress competition for the children – but 6 lads from the village had been killed, including my grandma’s cousin - terrible times!
Many members of my family are on this photograph - it has been scanned and uploaded to ancestry.co.uk and tagged, linked and added to each of my relatives timelines.
