Flu cases are rising across the Borders.

Please make sure that you are doing all you can to protect yourself, your family and our staff and patients this winter.

✅ Wash your hands regularly and use hand gel when visiting clinical areas
✅ Follow visiting advice - if you’re unwell, please stay home until symptom-free for 48 hours
✅ Get vaccinated against flu and COVID if eligible - it’s the best way to stay protected from serious illness

Cases of flu are high this winter, so if you’re wondering whether it’s just a cold or you’re floored with flu here’s what to do.

Most symptoms can be safely managed at home. Rest, drink plenty of fluids, and use paracetamol or ibuprofen to ease aches and fever. Your pharmacist can advise on cold and flu remedies.

Antibiotics won’t help with colds and flu as they are viruses – time and self-care are best.

To stop the spread:
💉 get your flu vaccination if you are eligible
🧼 wash your hands regularly
😷 cover coughs and sneezes

We're holding some drop-in clinics next week for eligible people to drop-in for their flu and/or COVID-19 vaccination. There's no need to make an appointment, just come along on the day and get protected ahead of the festive season.

If these dates and times don't suit, you can book an appointment for your flu vaccine at one of our other community clinics on the portal here - https://vacs.nhs.scot/csp

If you want to be protected in time for Christmas, you will need to make sure you get vaccinated at least two weeks beforehand.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the clinic end time. You may need to wait a short while to be seen, as people with pre-booked appointments will be given priority.

You are eligible to attend if you meet the criteria below:

Flu Vaccination Only

• All those aged 65 years and over
• All those aged 18 years to under 65 years in defined risk groups
• Frontline health and social care workers
• Non-frontline NHS workers
• Poultry workers & bird handlers
• Unpaid carers and young carers
• Household contacts of those with immunosuppression
• Pregnant Women

Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination:

• All adults aged 75 years and over
• Individuals aged 6 months and over who are immunosuppressed
