Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed annually on 3rd December, it is a global initiative by the United Nations since 1992.

The day serves as an opportunity develop understanding of disability issues, champion the dignity and rights of persons with disabilities, and raising awareness of the benefits of their full inclusion in every facet of life—political, social, economic, and cultural.

Join us in celebrating this important day by supporting efforts toward greater inclusivity and empowerment for everyone, everywhere.

The NHS is able to offer reasonable adjustments for patients with disabilities. We understand that everyone is different and it is important that you make us aware if you are requiring any reasonable adjustments within the surgery. For example needing longer appointment times or having a quite space to wait rather than in the main waiting room before having an appointment.

Feel free to contact us on 0191 3700500 or call into the surgery if you wish to discuss reasonable adjustments. Thank you 🙂

It only takes 45 seconds to check your mouth — and it could save your life.

Ulcers that won’t heal, persistent lumps, or unusual patches can be early signs of mouth cancer.

Do a quick self-check and encourage someone you care about to do the same. đź’™

If you think you may be eligible, please contact us to check and we can get you booked in for an appointment.

Tomorrow is the start of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (18-24 November).

Antibiotics don’t work on viruses like colds or flu. Self-care is often the best choice to treat minor illnesses. Overusing and misusing antibiotics can lead to Antimicrobial resistance which means life saving treatments can stop working for people.

Please be aware that Pharmacists are qualified to give advice about different health matters, including minor illnesses, so consider speaking to a pharmacist.

Today is World Diabetes Day.

Do you know your hypo from your hyper?

When someone’s having a diabetic emergency, acting quickly can make all the difference. Understanding whether they're experiencing high blood sugar or low blood sugar helps you give the right support when it really counts.

Your knowledge can go a long way - it could even save a life.

Check out https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/diabetes/ and https://www.diabetes.org.uk/ or Diabetes UK here on Facebook if you are wanting to find out and more information about Diabetes.

Please also contact the surgery on 0191 3700 500 or submit a System Connect on our website https://www.peltonandfellrose.nhs.uk/ if you suspect you may have any symptoms of Diabetes and are wanting to discuss with a GP.
