With the clocks having moved forward and time shifts again from the darker months to longer spring and summer days, we’re reminded that time is not always felt in hours and minutes… Henry Van D**e reminds us that

Time Is
Too Slow for those who Wait,
Too Swift for those who Fear,
Too Long for those who Grieve,
Too Short for those who Rejoice;
But for those who Love,
Time is not.

For anyone finding time too short you are not alone. Grief has its own rhythm, and love is eternal, memories endure, and precious time spent with our loved ones cannot be measured by the clock.

St Laudus Church, Mabe, rests quietly above Argal Reservoir, where time seems to slow. The ancient headstones, traced with lichen, stand among drifts of primroses that return each year with quiet certainty. Often wrapped in mist, the churchyard carries a calm, almost hushed beauty, one that feels deeply rooted in memory and place.

The venue of today’s funeral, we always seem to visit the church in mist!

Today our thoughts are with those whose arms are empty this Mothering Sunday, and especially with those whose hearts feel sorrowful.

There can be many emotions on a day like today, particularly when a mother or child is no longer here. Gratitude and gladness for their life and love may sit alongside tears and loneliness. All belong, and are part of loving someone who has died. Grief is a reflection of love, and remembering someone we cherish is a quiet way of keeping that love present.

If today feels heavy, please be gentle with yourself. It if helps, take time to recall a special memory, place a photo close by, create a small ritual, or simply take a moment of silence - know that your love for them continues to matter. There is still time to use our 'Letters to Heaven' postbox, and to light a virtual memorial candle for a loved one. Follow the link here: https://gbnf.online/308214

As the week comes to a close, our thoughts are with the families we have supported and all those carrying memories of someone they love.

This weekend is Mothering Sunday, a day that can bring many different emotions. For some it will be a time of celebration and togetherness, while for others it may be a quieter day of reflection and remembrance.

We also hold in our thoughts the mothers who may be facing this day having recently said goodbye to a child, and those whose children are no longer here. A loss like that leaves an absence that days like this can make especially felt.

However this weekend looks for you, we hope you are able to take it at your own pace and find comfort in memories and the love that always remains. 🌿💛

Many people will have watched the recent episode of Call the Midwife, where Sister Monica Joan speaks with her local funeral director to talk about her own death. It was a quiet moment, but a very powerful one.

Conversations about death are often avoided, yet speaking openly about wishes, concerns and arrangements can bring comfort and clarity, both to the person themselves and to the people who love them, which was beautifully created by the TV show.

In our work, we are often asked to have these conversations with people who are facing the end of their life. It is always a privilege to listen, to guide gently, and to help ensure that their wishes are understood and respected.

Talking about death may never feel easy, but sometimes it can be one of the most important conversations we have. 🌿

Have you seen the episode? It certainly gave many people something to reflect on.
