Thursday afternoon/evening and overnight weather update
Powered by Everett King Bristol & Exeter
The Met Office have issued a Yellow Weather Warning for rain and wind
From Friday 0200 until Saturday 0900
So yes… the atmosphere has officially decided to keep Cornwall on its toes again.
It’s been another classic Cornish day with heavy showers dotted around the county, mixed in with some genuinely decent bright and sunny spells. Blink, and you miss them, though. I’ve also spotted a suspicious number of ark-shaped objects on sale lately… starting to wonder if I should invest in one myself given the amount of rain we’ve had
And unfortunately, there’s not a huge amount of change on the horizon either the weather conveyor belt is very much still switched on.
Thursday afternoon
As we head into the later stages of Thursday afternoon, the weather is on repeat yet again.
Expect more scattered heavy showers across Cornwall, with those teasing bright and sunny spells popping up between the clouds. If we’re lucky, we might even squeeze out the odd hint of blue sky proof that the sun still exists.
Temperatures: 6°C to 11°C
Winds: Westerly flow
Heads-up for the coast
A quick coastal heads-up looking ahead:
Saturday: waves around 5–15ft
Sunday: increasing to 7–18ft
Early next week: potentially 10ft… possibly up to a very chunky 25ft
Definitely one to keep an eye on more details on this later, especially for coastal walkers, surfers, and anyone tempted to wave-watch from exposed spots (please do so safely!).
Thursday evening
As we move into Thursday evening, there’s a slight lull perhaps the calm before the storm.
There will still be a few showers knocking about, along with some brighter spells, but also plenty of stubborn cloud hanging around like it’s forgotten its bus fare.
Temperatures: 5°C to 10°C
Winds: South-westerly, veering more south-easterly after dark
Overnight into Friday morning
Now this is where things really ramp up.
The Portuguese-named Storm Ingrid will be close by overnight, bringing widespread moderate to heavy rain:
Rain arriving in West Cornwall around 11:30pm
Spreading across the whole of Cornwall by around 1am
Hopefully clearing away by around 6am
Winds: South-easterly strengthening 20–50mph, with gusts picking up as the night goes on.
Friday outlook
Friday is shaping up to be a very unsettled and windy day.
Expect heavy showers on and off, some turning prolonged at times, combined with strong winds.
Winds: South-easterly 20–60mph,
Gales are possible around exposed coasts and higher ground.
We’ll go into more detail on Friday later, but it’s definitely one to stay weather-aware for.
Smudge & Gus Weather Verdict
Smudge: “Rain, wind, waves, and no sunbeam naps? Absolutely not. I’m not leaving the sofa.”
Gus: “I ventured outside, got damp ears, and I’m deeply offended. Verdict: indoor zoomies only.”
Overall verdict:
0/4 paws for outdoor plans
4/4 paws for staying cosy and watching the rain from indoors
More updates soon and thank you, as always, for the continued trust and support
Kind regards,
KWT Dave
