ππΌ Huge congratulations to one of our patients Gill Silvertorn who has run the 230 kilometres through Kenya for Save the Rhino International and Beyond the Ultimate Race Series
What an incredible achievement! β¨ππΌ
Gill first came to the clinic suffering from calf pain with this challenge in mind. She was pleased to report that she had no issues with her body after, not even a twinge in her calves! πͺπΌ (Just lots of blisters!)
Here is what Gill said about her ultra:
"The 230K For Rangers Ultra marathon started on my 65th Birthday. In the shadow of Mount Kenya, we ran through multiple conservancies teeming with East Africaβs iconic wildlife while supporting the brave rangers who protect them.
The self-sufficient ultra (carrying all our own food, sleeping bag, sleep mat, compulsory medical kit, etc) was split over 5 days, so we completed a marathon each day under the watchful eye of the Rangers. We shared our days with rhino, elephants, impala, zebra, giraffe and more. The challenging terrain varies from baking grasslands, rocky hills, riverbeds and montane forest. π¦π¦π¦
In this beautiful place, a war is being fought. A war between armed and organised poaching cartels and the Rangers. The Rangers are the thin wall separating Africaβs last remaining elephants and rhinos from a multibillion-dollar trade in wildlife goods.
Kevin (my husband) and I have raised Β£1,300 on top of what we paid to enter the race, which goes to The Rangers for essential equipment, from boots to insurance for their families if the worst was to happen while out in the field."
