📢 Important Update from the Practice📢
Due to increased pressures associated with delivering the Spring COVID vaccination campaign, we have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend our travel vaccination services.
🗓️ Travel vaccines will be unavailable until June.
We understand this may be inconvenient and encourage patients planning to travel to seek advice from alternative providers during this time.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we prioritise patient care and public health.

A quick heads-up from your GP practice 😊

Hello everyone 👋

With the upcoming bank holidays 🌼, we just wanted to share a friendly reminder that each one means around 140 fewer GP appointments are available 📅. While all clinical staff appreciate the extra day off 🏖️, it can make this time of year a little busier than usual at the surgery 🏥.

If you find you’re waiting a bit longer ⏳ for an appointment, thank you so much for your patience 🙏. We promise we’re doing our best to see everyone as quickly as possible 💙.

In the meantime, for minor illnesses 🤧 or quick advice 💬, you might find it helpful to:
• Pop into your local pharmacy 💊 for expert guidance (they’re great for lots of common conditions!)
• Visit NHS online services 🌐 for advice, symptom checkers, and support

By using these options when appropriate, you’ll also help keep GP appointments available for those who need them most 💙✨

⚠️ Meningitis Outbreak – important information for patients and parents ⚠️

You may have seen news reports about a menigitis outbreak in Kent. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is coordinating a national response to the outbreak and working with local health partners to contain it and provide preventative antibiotics to close contacts where needed.

Please be reassured that this is a localised outbreak and not a national incident. NHS services continue to operate as normal.

At this time, there is no new advice for the general public to access the meningitis vaccines outside the routine NHS schedule. Vaccine recommendations are reviewed nationally by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).

The MenB vaccine was introduced into the routine NHS childhood vaccination programme in 2015 and is offered to babies as part of their standard immunisations at 8w, 12w and 1y.
The MenACWY booster is offered at aged 14y (Year 9) at school.

What you can do:
✅ Check your child’s vaccination record and make sure they are up to date with routine vaccines.
📱 You can check your or your child’s immunisation status on the NHS App.
🎒 Young people should receive their Year 9 school vaccinations, including MenACWY and the Td/IPV booster.

Babies who have missed their MenB vaccine can be offered this up to the age of 2y.💉

If you missed your MenACWY vaccine (normally offered at age 14 in Year 9), you can book an appointment with the surgery to receive this vaccine up until the age of 25.💉

Know the symptoms of meningitis:
🦠A rash that does not fade when pressed
🌡️High fever
😣Severe headache
🫨Stiff neck
🤮Vomiting
🥶Cold hands or feet
🔦Sensitivity to light
🥱Confusion or drowsiness

If you notice these symptoms, seek urgent medical advice. Call NHS 111 for urgent help or 999 in an emergency.

Reduce the risk:
🧼 Wash hands regularly
🚫 Avoid sharing drinks, vapes, ci******es, or utensils

As a practice, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr David Wilson, a long-serving GP and valued partner Pershore Medical Practice. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and all who knew him.

A note from Dr James Rankin ( previous partner of Dr David Wilson at PMP)

Tribute to Dr David Wilson, General Practitioner, Pershore, 1965 to 1993.

It is with appreciation that I make this tribute to David who died peacefully on Friday 6 February 2026 in Heathlands Residential Home, Pershore..

Dr David Wilson (born on 25 April 1933) was a general practitioner in Pershore from 1965 until his retirement in 1993 aged 60. Affectionately known by all as ‘Dr David’ he was a very dedicated, compassionate and skilled man of family medicine with a particular interest in community obstetrics and in homeopathy. He had an impish sense of humour and an ability to influence those around him with candour and clarity of thought. He was a guiding influence within the practice and a caring and considerate general practitioner.

After graduating from Cambridge he came to join his brother, Marshall, in the family practice in 1965, then in the High Street, Pershore, (before moving to The new Health Centre in Priest Lane in 1975). Their father, John Cecil Wilson (the founder of the practice together with Neville Hine) had failing eyesight and had decided to retire. They were joined, as time passed, by Nigel Paine, Trevor Lloyd, Andrew Jackson, Tom Pitts-Tucker, Kate Edwards, Kate Young (Marshall’s daughter) and the author of this tribute. When David retired Chris Perks joined the partnership.

David married Sarah in 1962 and they had four children, Jo, Phil, Fran & Rosie. Sarah became the senior district nurse based in the practice so it really was a family affair! Sarah died after a long illness in 2024.

Sarah and David had many friends and they were known for their generosity and hospitality. They enjoyed gardening and lovingly restored Amerie Court, their house of many years, in Newlands. David was a keen barbershop singer. He was closely associated with Pershore Abbey, the Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society and the Pershore Town Choir, to name but a few of his other activities!

Farewell David!

There will be a Service of Thanksgiving for David in The Pershore Abbey on Saturday 18 April at 2 pm. All will be welcome.

James Rankin (GP partner of David’s from 1991)

We are seeing a rise in measles cases in parts of England, and we want to help keep our community safe.🛡️

Measles can be a serious illness, especially for young children. The most effective way to protect your child is through vaccination.💉

We’re encouraging all parents and carers to please check that their children are up to date with their routine vaccinations.

You can:
✔ Check your child’s Red Book
✔ Contact us to review their vaccination record
✔ Book an appointment if any vaccinations are outstanding

If you’re unsure or have any questions, our team is here to help.

Let’s work together to protect our children and our community. 💙
