Client story – Lee

Lee experienced a sharp, shooting pain wrapping from his mid-back around into the left side of his ribcage during a gym session.

The sharp pain eased slightly later that day, but the following day he still had discomfort and niggles around the left rib area.

On assessment, his T7 vertebra was slightly rotated, irritating the nerve and causing the pain to travel around the ribcage.

If your pain comes and goes depending on the position your body’s in, there’s a reason for it.

When a vertebra compresses on a nerve, pain can travel along that nerve pathway — for example down the leg or down the arm.

Because the spine is constantly moving, different positions can increase or reduce that compression, which is why symptoms can feel better at times and worse at others.

By correcting the position of the vertebra and relieving pressure on the nerve, pain can often reduce very quickly.

Not all pain is the same.

Muscle pain is usually sore to touch, stays in one area, and is constant after an injury.

Nerve pain is different. It often moves — into the neck, shoulder and arm, or from the lower back down the leg, hip or into the groin — and changes depending on your position.

Shooting pain, dull aches, stabbing sensations, numbness or pins and needles are common signs of nerve involvement.

That’s because the source of the problem is often compression at the spine, not the muscle itself.

Massage and physio are great tools — when they’re used for the right problems.

Muscle tears, strains, fractures and post-injury rehab? They’re perfect for that.

Jaw pain or clicking that just won’t go away?
One of the most common causes is actually T3 — a vertebra in the upper back that controls the jaw.

If T3 slips out of place, it can irritate the nerves that help the jaw open, close, and stay relaxed.

🌟 Condition of the Week: Sciatica
Sciatica doesn’t always start where you expect it.

A vertebra that slips anywhere from L4 up to the bottom of the thoracic spine can irritate the sciatic nerve — not just the very bottom of the back.
This can lead to:
