Foot creams containing “urea”
Urea is a naturally occurring substance found in your skin. It’s part of your body’s own moisturising system and helps keep skin soft, hydrated, and healthy.
In foot creams, urea works in two key ways:
💧 At lower strengths (around 10–25%)
Urea acts as a humectant, meaning it draws moisture into the skin and helps keep it hydrated. This is perfect for dry, rough feet.
🧽 At higher strengths (25% and above)
Urea becomes keratolytic, which means it helps break down and soften hard, thickened skin (like calluses and cracked heels). It essentially loosens the bonds between dead skin cells so they can shed more easily.
⚠️ The important part: strength matters
While higher percentages can be very effective, they can also be too aggressive if used incorrectly — leading to irritation or damage to healthy skin. Not all urea creams are the same — and choosing the wrong strength can do more harm than good ⚠️
Using a high-percentage urea cream incorrectly can lead to:
❌ Skin irritation and burning
❌ Damage to healthy skin
❌ Increased sensitivity or even skin breakdown
🚫 Please do not purchase creams online from sites like Temu, where product quality and regulation can be questionable.
🚫 I’ve seen 60% urea creams being sold on Amazon, and these should NOT be used unless instructed by your GP or dermatologist
The right product depends on your skin, your condition, and how it’s being used — stronger is NOT always better.
