At Tay Osteopathy, we treat a lot of babies AFTER they’re born, but this little one brought her 36-week pregnant mum along for treatment instead!

Baby was presenting breech, so Mum came for osteopathy to help encourage baby to turn into a head-down position ready for birth.

After just one osteopathic session – along with acupuncture and some home “spinning baby” techniques – baby turned that very night!
Mum can now look forward to the home water birth she’d been hoping for. 💙

Osteopathy can support breech babies (alongside other therapies and medical guidance) by exploring what might be contributing to the baby staying in that position. We gently assess and treat:

• Restrictions in the pelvic joints
• Tension in the soft tissues of the hips, pelvis and lower back
• Overall body mechanics, posture and gait

By gently releasing areas of tension and improving mobility, we help create more space and balance within the pelvis, giving baby the freedom to move into a head-down position more easily.

What a lovely outcome ☺️

Birth is an incredible journey, for both mum and baby. Even the smoothest deliveries can leave little ones with areas of tension from being curled up in the womb for months or from the pressures of birth itself.

Osteopathic treatment for babies uses the gentlest of techniques to help release these tensions, supporting comfort, feeding, sleep, and overall wellbeing.

Every baby is unique, and each treatment is guided entirely by their needs and responses - always calm, soothing, and safe. 💕

If you’d like to know more about how osteopathy can support your baby, feel free to get in touch.

My daughter, Lily Dyer, also an osteopath, worked the last clinic of 2024 in Tay Osteopathy.

Her last patient of the day was a real ‘hoot’ 🦉 *(Note the improvement in Mr. Owl’s neck rotation from photo 1 to photo 2!)*

HAPPY NEW YEAR to each and every one of you. I look forward to seeing you all next year. Keep healthy.

One of the perks of my job is treating babies and children such as this 3-week old bundle of cuteness. Just look at how relaxed he is about being treated. Such a cool dude 😎

Extremely gentle and safe osteopathic techniques can be very effective on babies by releasing any compression throughout your baby's cranial bones that could have been caused during the labour process.

Osteopathy can also help to calm babies suffering with excess wind, colic-type symptoms, restlessness or general irritability

I am absolutely thrilled to announce that my daughter, Lily, has graduated as an Osteopath from the European School of Osteopathy (the same college from which I also graduated in 1990!). She achieved a First Class Honours Masters, and also won the prize for ‘most publishable dissertation’.

Welcome to the wonderful profession of Osteopathy Lily! I am very proud to call you a colleague.

If anyone you know is interested in becoming an Osteopath, please get in touch and Lily and I would be delighted to give some insight into the profession, the training, and offer the opportunity to observe how we treat in the clinic.
