🐴 Friday morning group - 10am-12pm - we are opening a new group on Friday mornings which will start after the Easter holidays (20th of April)

What a hugely blustery day! Alex and I were definitely finding our lunch break a tad exciting but my oh my did our school groups take it all in their strides!

Today was inspired by the Chinese element of the Metal horse, who finds it difficult if there is too much information/stimulus or doesn’t understand what’s being asked of them and why.

We did some number sorting
We arranged a social story preparing for putting on a headcollar
We learned how to put headcollars on the ponies
We practised focus and direction whilst leading
We learned about the hoof and how to take care of it.

The team work, and care for the ponies was exceptional today - well done team! 🐴✨🐴✨

Last week we shifted outdoor learning focus from the Five Chinese Elements, to "Horses around the world" Our first focus is the wonderful Highland pony!

This week we enjoyed hearing all about their work in the hills and helping the environment by the wonderful Nicola from Glenisla. We were able to see how a deer saddle works, and practise securing the saddle on and manes Klaas the vaulting horse!

Alex and I have developed some games which tie into the psyche and herd dynamics of the highland pony. And look forward to seeing our learners shine with them next week!

Inny decided to follow Velvet down to meet one of our school groups this morning. Making it her very first time meeting everyone! She spent a short time with our learners to get a taster of what we do, and what a brilliant first experience our learners gave her with quiet energy, gentle hands and lots of care! Well done team! 🐴✨🐴

This afternoon was a quieter tempo but just as fun and important. Today we learned about

🐴 What brushes are in a grooming kit
🐴 Leading and handling skills
🐴Local geography and map making

A day of two brilliant halves. This morning we had an amazing talk from Nicola who came all the way from Glenisla to tell us about Highland ponies and show us how to put on and use a dear saddle. So many smiles!! And lots of fun!! Huge thank you to Nicola and Carys for their help today 🐴✨🐴✨

Our new outdoor learning block at Minds & Manes begins on Monday and we have lots of fun and learning moments planned! We are Super excited to start our new blocks ! Nicola and I have been hard at work planning over the last few weeks .

I will send all outdoor learning our March plan for outdoor learning and give you all a paper copy on Monday . This may help any young people that like to know what we are doing in advance or to support your learning journey 🦄❤️.

Newbie Inny (the white pony) only arrived last weekend and it was lovely to see her confidence and curiosity build. She came up with Demi to have a good look at what our adult social group was up to this week!

Brush and Banter is a quieter Friday social where we focus on mindfulness, pony brushing and handling, gentle arts and crafts and a blether along the way!

We meet every Friday 1-2.30pm
Booking is required in three or six week blocks, within that dates can be arranged to suit your needs
