People assume that as a personal trainer, I’ve got my s**t together.

The body.
The routine.
The consistency.

And in my teens, twenties & thirties… that version of me did exist.

I chased high-intensity classes, didn’t need to slow down to recharge, could eat what I wanted and stayed slim.

But I am in my late 40s now and my outlook is very different.

Perimenopause… and more anxiety disorders than I care to list.

Sleep, energy, decision-making, nutrition — which can be emotionally led — motivation and confidence can all come and go.

Some days I feel capable.
Other days, even simple things feel massively overwhelming.

And this is the part that matters…

Knowing what to do is not the same as being able to do it.

When your nervous system is on edge, your brain prioritises safety over performance.

So:

• Structure can feel overwhelming
• Decisions feel exhausting
• Plans feel like pressure
• Small tasks feel bigger than they should

For many women — especially through perimenopause — anxiety can increase, which makes consistency feel even harder.

So if your goals feel harder to reach, or you struggle to stay “on plan”…

Give yourself a break. Don’t beat yourself up.

I use the DARE response for anxiety:

Diffuse – this is anxiety, not danger
Allow – stop fighting the feeling
Run toward – lean into discomfort
Engage – take action anyway

And something I come back to often:

Do one scary thing a day.

Not something extreme —
just something anxiety would usually have you avoid.

Because avoidance might reduce anxiety short-term…
but it reinforces it long-term.

Consistency doesn’t have to look perfect.

Some days it’s a full session.
Some days it’s a walk.
Some days it’s simply not avoiding.

You don’t need to feel good to take action.
You don’t need perfect structure to make progress.
And you’re not failing because it feels harder.

You’re adapting.

And that’s where real strength is built.

If this resonates with you, and you’re struggling to stay consistent, feel free to reach out — this is exactly the space I coach in.

If your body feels constantly tight, it is not always just a muscle problem.

A lot of people carrying high stress levels feel stiff, braced, achy, restricted, and sore without realising how much their body has been holding.

Poor sleep.
Shallow breathing.
Long-term stress.
Pushing through fatigue.
Training hard without recovering well. Holding tension day after day.

It all adds up.

Fascia is part of the body’s connective tissue system, and it responds to the environment around it. When stress stays high, the body often stays guarded. Movement becomes less free. Muscles work harder. Tightness builds.

That is why treatment should always look beyond the sore area.

At RMT Perth, I look at the bigger picture:
how you move,
how you load,
how you recover,
and how much stress your body may be carrying.

Sometimes the goal is not to force a release. It is to help the body feel safe enough to relax, move better, and release tension.

If you have been feeling tight for a while, there may be more to it than “just knots.”

Event training starts before the first session.

The moment your mind says half marathon, full marathon, ultra marathon, Kilimanjaro, or any event that is going to put serious strain on your body, your first step should be to see a Sports and Rehabilitation Therapist.

We are not just massage therapists.

We assess.
We look at movement.
We check imbalances.
We guide recovery.
We help you train the right muscles.
We look at load, fatigue, mobility, and control.
We support hydration and recovery strategies.
We look at the whole body — from your toes to your head.

Training for an event like this is not just about fitness.

It is about getting to the start line in the best shape possible, and getting through the other side as healthy and injury-free as possible.

Do not leave it until two weeks before your event.

This is what we do.
This is why we go to uni for four years.
We love this stuff.

So when the idea first pops into your head, come and see us.

We’ve got you. 🌻
