Plantar Fasciitis Mythbusting 👣

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain, but there’s a lot of misinformation out there. Let’s set the record straight.

❌ Myth 1: “It’s caused by inflammation.”
Fact: Plantar fasciitis is usually due to tissue overload and degeneration, not inflammation.

❌ Myth 2: “Rest is the cure.”
Fact: Complete rest isn’t helpful. The fascia needs gradual loading with stretching, strengthening, and appropriate activity to heal effectively.

❌ Myth 3: “You need surgery to fix it.”
Fact: Very few cases ever need surgery. Most people get better with conservative treatments like footwear changes, orthoses, exercises, and shockwave therapy.

❌ Myth 4: “Pain means you’re making it worse.”
Fact: Mild discomfort during stretching or exercise doesn’t harm the fascia. Avoiding movement completely can actually slow recovery.

❌ Myth 5: “All insoles are the same.”
Fact: Generic insoles may help some people, but custom orthoses can provide targeted support for persistent or complex cases.

Bottom line:
Plantar fasciitis isn’t about a “weak heel” or inflammation. It’s about tissue overload and gradual recovery. With the right footwear, exercises, orthoses, and treatments, heel pain can be managed and improved.

Over the next couple of weeks we are going to do a little series dedicated to the treatment of the most common cause of foot pain- Plantar Fasciitis.

So let’s kick off with- Plantar Fasciitis: What Actually Works? 👣

Plantar fasciitis can be stubborn, but research tells us which treatments are most effective. Here’s the evidence-based approach:

1. Footwear & Orthoses
Supportive shoes and, where needed, custom or pre-made foot orthoses (insoles) help reduce stress on the plantar fascia and allow tissue to heal.

2. Stretching & Strengthening Exercises
Stretching the calf and plantar fascia, and strengthening foot and lower leg muscles, improves load tolerance and reduces pain over time.

3. Load Management
Adjusting activities to avoid repetitive overloading — without complete rest — allows healing while staying active.

4. Shockwave Therapy
For persistent cases, shockwave therapy can stimulate tissue repair and reduces pain.

5. Steroid Injections
Used selectively for short-term pain relief when other measures aren’t enough, helping patients start rehabilitation exercises more comfortably.

Bottom line:
The most effective results come from combining suitable footwear, exercises, load management, and targeted therapies like orthoses or shockwave therapy. Patience and consistency are key — plantar fasciitis doesn’t usually improve overnight, but with the right approach, recovery is very achievable.

Myth-busting Swift Microwave therapy

🔍 “It damages the skin”
⚡️ Swift uses controlled microwave energy that targets the verruca tissue without damaging the surrounding skin. There is open wound after treatment.

🔍 “It is the same as freezing or acids”
⚡️ Swift works differently. Rather than attacking the surface, it stimulates your immune system to clear the virus causing the verruca.

🔍 “You need home treatments afterwards”
⚡️ One of the biggest advantages of Swift is minimal aftercare. No dressings, daily applications and no distractions to normal activities

🔍 “It is not backed by evidence”
⚡️ Swift is supported by growing clinical evidence and is used widely in Podiatry and Dermatology clinics across the UK.

If you have tried everything else with little success, Swift microwave therapy could be the treatment that finally works.

Swift microwave therapy for verrucae - what you need to know

Verrucae can be stubborn, painful and frustrating - especially when they don’t respond to creams, acid or freezing. Swift microwave therapy offers a modern, clinically proven alternative.

Swift uses targeted microwave energy to treat the verruca, stimulating your body’s own immune response to clear the virus 🦠 There are no dressings, no wounds and no ongoing home treatments.

The key benefits of Swift therapy:
- Effective for long standing verrucae, including those resistant to other treatments.
- No needles, no cutting and no chemicals.
- Minimal aftercare - no dressings or keeping your foot dry.
- Short treatment sessions, usually just a few minutes.
- Evidence based with high clearance rates reported in clinical studies.

If you’re fed up with a verruca that won’t go away, Swift microwave therapy may be the solution.

Shockwave therapy - Let’s bust a few myths

We still hear a lot of misinformation about shockwave therapy for foot and ankle pain, so let’s clear things up.

🔍 “It’s experimental or unsafe”
⚡️ Shockwave therapy has been used in musculoskeletal medicine for years and is supported by strong clinical evidence. When delivered by a trained clinician, it is safe, effective and well tolerated.

🔍 “It is extremely painful”
⚡️ Most patients describe shockwave as uncomfortable rather than painful. Treatment is short and any discomfort settles immediately after treatment.

🔍 “It doesn’t really work”
⚡️ Shockwave therapy has good evidence for conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinopathy, particularly when other treatments haven’t helped.

If you have been living with persistent foot or ankle pain and want a proven, non surgery treatment option, shockwave therapy may well be worth considering.

If ongoing heel pain is limiting your daily activities, Shockwave therapy may be the solution you are looking for.

Shockwave therapy is a clinically proven, non-invasive treatment that stimulates the body’s natural healing response. It is commonly used for stubborn foot and ankle conditions where pain has failed to settle with simple measures.

Key benefits include:
⚡️ Effective pain reduction for conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinopathy
⚡️ Non surgical and needle freee, with no injections or anaesthetic
⚡️ Quick appointments, with treatment typically lasting only a few minutes
⚡️ No downtime, allowing most people to continue day to day activities
⚡️ Strong clinical evidence, particularly for chronic tendon and soft tissue problems

Rather than masking symptoms, shockwave works by improving blood flow and encouraging tissue repair at the source of pain.

If foot pain is stopping you from walking, exercising or working comfortably, shockwave therapy could be an effective solution.

Get in touch to book an assessment and find out if shockwave therapy is right for you you.
