Most People Misunderstand the Real Cause of Their Struggle

One Thing Is Clear: The Root Cause Matters Most
It never ceases to amaze me how many people say they know exactly what caused their anxiety, stress, fear, habit, or emotional struggle.
In all those years of working with hypnosis, I have found that in around 98% of cases, what people believe is the cause is not actually the root cause.
That does not mean their experience is not real. It does not mean the issue is not affecting them. It clearly is. But very often, the event or situation they point to is only the trigger, not the true starting point.
This is where so many people become stuck.
They seek help, often through different therapies, trying to manage the symptoms and make sense of how they feel. Some approaches can certainly help, and any support that brings relief has value.
But unless the original root cause is identified and addressed, much of the work can remain superficial. It may ease things for a while, but it does not always create the deep, lasting change people are really looking for.
In my experience, this is one of the great strengths of hypnosis.
Hypnosis can help uncover what sits beneath the surface. It can help reveal where the problem first began, how it took hold, and why it continues to have such a strong effect in the present.
Once the real cause is understood, the work becomes far more focused, meaningful, and effective.
Because if we are not treating the root, what exactly are we treating?
For me, this has always been at the heart of good therapeutic work. Not simply managing the visible symptoms, but helping people understand and resolve the deeper issue driving them. When that happens, real change becomes possible.
