**We are recruiting - Activities Assistant**

As an Activities Assistant at a Barchester care home, you’ll help to create a stimulating environment that enables us to deliver exceptional all-round care and support for our residents. Our ethos is all about celebrating life, so you’ll help to devise imaginative, fun and motivational activities that suit every interest and ability.

This is an extremely rewarding role, part of your time as an Activities Assistant will be spent getting to know our residents and their families before you create tailored activities programmes focused on maximising everyone’s wellbeing, independence and social engagement.

You’ll need to be warm, empathetic and personable to join us as an Activities Assistant. Your organisational skills and driven mind-set mean you always get things done and make things happen. Meanwhile, your infectious enthusiasm and creative approach will inspire our residents and staff to get involved in activities both within the home and in the local community.

Any similar experience would be ideal, but it isn’t essential – especially because we’ll make sure you have the training you need to develop your skills and progress your career with us.

🎖Veteran Talk 🎖

Braeburn Lodge welcomed staff Sargent Gary Ward for a talk on his time in the armed forces as we near Remembrance Day. Gary spoke about his four tours in Bosnia, Northern Ireland and two tours in Afghanistan. He bravely worked with bomb disposal and spoke of his close encounters with IED's and rocket grenades. Gary had an amazing story of his encounter with Prince Harry and had all the residents and staff laughing. The residents were emotional and proud to wear his hat, and hold and see all of his well deserved medals. Everyone finished the morning with some delicious scones, clotted cream and jam.

Resident Bob said "what an interesting morning. It was an honour to hear all of his stories and he has done the country proud"

A massive thank you to Gary for your service and the time you gave to us at Braeburn lodge today!

🎃 Halloween Celebrations 🎃

Residents, patients and colleagues got into the Halloween spirit of things by creating beautiful autumnal displays with painted and carved pumpkins, flowers and wreaths.

Many of our care homes and hospitals hosted fun-filled Halloween events with delicious treats, mocktails, live music entertainment, costume competitions and community celebrations.

It's safe to say that everyone had a spooktacular time. 👻

Here are some of our favourite moments.

Remember, Remember the 5th of November

That’s how the old rhyme starts. But what are we remembering - and why - on 5th November? Why are we still remembering it 420 years later? And why with bonfires and effigies (not always of Guy Fawkes)?

Join us on Wednesday, 5th November, at 2.30pm for a fascinating talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at University of Westminster.

In this talk Pippa Catterall will explore the background to and events of that long-ago November night, why it was deemed so important to remember it then and how our memory of the Gunpowder Plot has shifted over the intervening years.

The event will be available to watch via YouTube live, please contact the home for more information.

🔍 Thursday Night Murder Club at Caldy Manor 🕵️‍♀️

It was an evening to remember at Caldy Manor Care Home on the as residents, colleagues and friends from Heswall & District Ladies Circle turned detectives, suspects and stars in the home’s very own Thursday Murder Club-themed evening.

Inspired by Richard Osman’s much-loved mystery novels, there were hilarious plot twists and some truly Oscar-worthy performances, the night was packed with laughs and fantastic acting from everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all, the experience was a roaring success.

Safe to say… no one saw the ending coming! 😉

This afternoon our home was proud to join the Deepings Community Library and Simon a volunteer to the group as we launched a new monthly Tech Support Cafe.

The group was on hand to give tech and device support to the visiting community.

Support ranged from advice on installing apps, phishing scams, smart phone support and much more.

The next digital support group will meet again on Tuesday 25th November at 1.30pm in the library.

Also a huge thank you and show of appreciation goes to the team at Tesco in Market Deeping for their kindness in donating sweets for prizes in the home.
