About me

Hi there, my name is Rachel, welcome to my page. I am a qualified counsellor which is something I’m so passionate about, I love my job. I use a person-centred approach mainly, which means I work with what my clients feel they are ready, willing and able to work on. It also means you are my primary concern and I am committed to listening to you as well as supporting you. The counselling service revolves all around you and I am trained to integrate other theories, which is great because it means I can tailor what I use according to my clients needs. This could be using CBT techniques for example, if, that is what would benefit my client during a session and they agreed.

I have experience working with agencies such as Cruse Bereavement, dealing with all kinds of loss. I continue to volunteer because I have found it to be a privilege to be part of all my client’s journeys. I have witnessed their pain and suffering, as well as heard about their relationships, and their experiences, which in some cases has brought my clients laughter too – remembering the good times that may have been shared. It takes a lot of courage for someone to talk, and I am always grateful my clients trust me to share this – it means we value our relationship.

Whilst I am working with Cruse which deals only in bereavement, I also have experience with Peterborough City Council working with parents as part of a mentoring scheme for their children. Parents have a tough job, now throw in children with learning difficulties or undiagnosed difficulties. Being judged as “bad or difficult children” or “bad parents” and the frustrations of not being heard or not getting the support required. It’s been a valuable experience supporting them on a voluntary basis in their daily lives, helping them to remember what wonderful things they are accomplishing each day! Especially seeing the difference when parents/children are finally listened to and do get the support they need - what a massive impact this has on their lives. This service has enabled clients to bring whatever is on their mind, from past, present, or future.

It has been open to all kinds of life challenges such as:
