Reposted from Great to see the NHS promoting scar massage.
Unfortunately have repeatedly said it is a "new" and "experimental" treatment for a patient seeking help locally via her health policy with consultant request for scar massage treatment. Soft tissue treatment of a scar can be invaluable in optimising post surgical recovery, as detailed in this post for post orthopaedic surgery.

Everyoneās skin is different and some people are more prone to problems with their scars than others.
Scars may stick to underlying tissues and become itchy or sensitive to the touch.
If scars run across/close to a joint, they could limit movement at that joint and restrict function.
Massage treatments can help by:
- softening scar tissue
- flattening, smoothing and cooling scars
- bringing down redness
When can I start massage?
As soon as stitches are out and the wound is closed.
Please speak to a clinician at PRU if you have concerns about your scar and would like more information.
