Patient expectation Vs Realistic expectation
This can be one of the hardest parts of my job because sometimes patients can come with an idea in mind on what they think they need but it may not be the case.
Common phrases we hear in the aesthetics industry are,
‘I only want 1ml, but can we do cheeks and lips’ — this is highly unrealistic as 1ml of filler isn’t actually that much and would not achieve good results to cover both areas. I want to create perfect results for you and sometimes that requires more.
‘I don’t want to bruise’ — any aesthetic injector will tell you that we don’t want you to bruise either but sometimes it just can’t be helped. Especially around the eyes, due to lots of little capillaries, we can’t see them all, so sometimes a bruise may happen. This is always explained pre treatment and there are things we can do to try and help reduce any bruising.
‘Make my lines disappear overnight’ — unfortunately this isn’t going to happen. You’ve taken a while to develop those lines, so they are not going to vanish overnight. Understanding that it may take some time before you see a difference is important, but believe me you will see it, you just have to be patient.
‘I want to look younger but I use sun beds and don’t wear SPF’ — well this I’m afraid is a waste of your time and money! Paying for treatments that are going to help turn back the clock are great, BUT you have to put in the work too. If you’re going to continue using sun beds, sunbathing or not wearing SPF there is no point in having certain treatments. Sun beds/sun are so damaging and ageing to your skin, you are just undoing all the hard work we’ve done in clinic. Take care of your skin and if you really can’t live without a tan, get it out of a bottle instead!
