Just give yourself a moment. Give your self a pause.
It doesn't need to be for long, just a few minutes.
Leave the phone, the devices to one side, and take breath. Have a drink...
and while you hydrate...
cogitate... ruminate... day-dream
let your mind wander and wonder.
Short little moments through the day like this can do wonders to help you keep your balance, your perspective, your mental health.
If you have the time, or the need, hypnotherapy can help you calm your mind, allow you to refocus and reset yourself so you can be in a better place.

Life can be tough and the pressures can feel intense!
We can't always be strong, coping, for all sorts of reasons.
Being overwhelmed, exhausted, deflated is not an easy place to be.
But recognising your situation, sitting with the feelings and acknowledging the difficulties is part of the process.
Sometimes you can come out the other side on your own, but asking for help and support can also help hugely. Breaking the cycle of negative thinking that we spiral down into is not easy, partly because of the way our brain responds.
If you are feeling broken and struggling to see a way through, reach out for help and support. Solution focused hypnotherapy is definitely one option, but find what is right for you.

Our bodies respond when our brain assesses that difficult or unknown events are about to occur. Our natural response through our primitive brain is to assume threat and our physiological responses prepare us for fight or flight. Heart rate goes up, adrenaline and cortisol are released, non essential functions are shut down etc., etc.
Yet, the physiological responses are pretty similar to a challenge event.
Our bodies in both cases are working to support us to meet a difficult situation.
It is in the mind where the interpretation of learned behaviour and past patterns is applied. It is the mind that differentiates between threat and challenge and we have capacity to rewire our patterns. If we choose to meet situations as a challenge rather than a problem, we can be far more effective, more positive and more solution focussed and make best use of the resources our body provides for us.
Helping clients work with their bodies (reframing the thinking) has been really effective in all sorts of aspects of their lives, such as performance, weight loss, confidence. The mind and body are part of a single entity so you have to work with the whole person, not just an issue.
If you want to learn to respond better, drop me a message.
I'm happy to tell you how hypnotherapy works and how it may support you.

If you We all know the benefits of exercise, movement.
Exercise also helps support a healthier brain. The process of exercise produces beneficial chemicals in the brain that help us access our intellectual brain and function in a more positive way.
We also need to exercise our brain. We need to challenge ourselves and our thinking.
We need to think about our brain as if it were a muscle. We can reshape the way we operate, rewire the way our brain responds. Just as you can get stronger and fitter, your brain can learn new patterns and behaviours to support us better.
It takes time, it takes energy and it takes focus, exactly the same as any exercise programme. The potential benefits are huge. Our brains have more potential, more capacity than any computer in the world. You can literally learn to see the world from a new perspective. A positive perspective where you can choose how you respond.
If you want to learn more, get in touch. Initial consultation is free with no obligations.

Asking for help, support, is a really positive first step.
It is acknowledging that we have issues that we want to deal with and move on from.
Being heard is a fundamental need for all of us.
It isn't always easy to find a good listener.
Someone who can "walk beside you" as you work through your issues, Not offering advice, but guiding you through the labyrinth that are your thoughts. Supporting you as you learn and determine how you want to move forward.
I have been working with a client who had been struggling with issues for many years and was almost resigned to the limitations of those issues.
Being able to listen and learn how they were operating and then sharing knowledge about how the brain can impact and mislead us proved massively empowering and it is a joy to see this client now thriving in so many ways.
It starts with listening, acknowledging and supporting.

GO YOU!
If you are working to move forward with goals, that is brilliant.
Celebrate the effort you are putting in!
Don't see it as a punishment, it is a positive opportunity. You are looking to gain a better lifestyle, a healthier, happier you.
It is not all black and white and there is so much noise out there.
Take small steps that you can build into your existing patterns and do what works for you.
Living happier and healthier is a marathon not a sprint.
If the intent is there then progress (preferably slowly) will happen as a positive benefit rather than "another thing to stress about".
Enjoy learning about what works for you, your body and your mind.

Positive actions;
Positive interactions;
Positive thinking.

Ways of staying positive can come from all sorts of directions.
Getting a bit of exercise and fresh air; helping someone out; constructive social interaction and most of all being kind to yourself.
Looking beyond the cold and dark of winter takes a little bit of effort, but we create a lot of the world we live in just through our thoughts and actions.
That means that we have the potential to make "our bit of the world" a brighter place and when we do, it not only lifts ourselves, it will help lift others around us too.
Work to take back control of what we can. Try changing the focus from what we don't have and look to see what we do have.

Our brain is amazing, constantly working to keep us safe and alive.
Part of that process however, is that often our brains see change as a threat.
How we think massively impacts how we react, so instead of thinking about wanting to change things, think in terms of how you want to move forward.
A positive statement that avoids potential triggers for our brain.
Altering the way you think really does alter the way you can respond to the world around you.

So, coming out the other side of Christmas, we are deluged by social media on how to "start over", "get fitter", "be healthier"!
Just take a breath, and be pleased with yourself. You are here, you turn up every day and you are doing what you can.
Sure, reflect on what you want; review what has gone well; be grateful for all that you do have.
You don't need to add pressure by having to make drastic changes.
When you are ready, if you choose to, you can take small steps to achieve more of what you want. But do it in your own time and in your own way.
If you need help and support to move in the direction that you want, fine, do some reading, or reach out to someone, but do it on your own terms, as your body and mind allows.
Most of all try to enjoy being you this January.

Sunrise over Bainton - looking glorious on these crisp winter mornings.
It is that time of year for reflection.
Perhaps don't over think it. What worked well in 2025 for you.
What would you like to do more of, what would you want less of going forward?
It is easier and more effective to build on your existing successes, making changes that feel right for you.
It's not wrong to have "big goals" but how do you make them feel achievable and realistic? Making small changes within your existing patterns is more likely to help you move forward towards a larger objective.
Change can sound difficult, progress can feel more possible.

We seem to put a lot of effort into Christmas.
It comes at a time of the year when many are struggling to remain positive and motivated. The long nights and poor weather do impact us without doubt.
But it gives us something to focus on. Yes it comes with a lot of baggage but if we focus on giving, sharing, social interaction, these are all massively positive and beneficial for us as individuals.
So why do we limit this effort to Christmas?
We would all benefit from positive social interaction, sharing, contributing throughout the year.
Building on the momentum that the Christmas period generates it would be a relatively simple step to carry the positive attitudes and actions on into the New Year, through January and beyond. Making positive contributions to your social circle will benefit both the giver and the recipient. Supporting others and yourself sounds like a great win win.
