We are often our own limiting factor.
Our brains are amazing, but they have default modes and defence modes. They are designed to help and protect us, but sometimes in this modern world our brains don't always correctly identify what is threat or not.
As a result our world can shrink. We stop feeling as confident and socialise less, become withdrawn. We might to start feel stress and then anxiety and find ourselves less able to cope. Our mind can impact our physical wellbeing, influencing IBS and IBD which in turn becoming limiting features of our lives.
If you want to expand your horizons, or simply get back in track with your hopes and aspirations, take time to understand how the brain works, and begin to develop strategies to help it work in your best interest.

Stand tall at the beginning of this week and be gentle on yourself.
Take a moment to acknowledge the progress you have made and allow yourself a little more confidence to go out and meet the day. You have the capacity to make it a good (even a great) day if you choose to look for the positives. The positives you possess and the positives you create through your day.

The training continues! Just back from a training run and I have to admit running is not my favourite activity. However, any exercise (even running) is good - both physically and mentally. So I set myself a goal - the Great Eastern Half Marathon on 12th October. I found some motivation - I told people I was going to do it, and I chose to support a charity - Peterborough Samaritans to raise both awareness and funds.
The result - I am exhausted but pleased. I am doing more exercise because of these choices than I would have done otherwise and I am supporting both myself and what I regard as a very worthy cause.
When we put things in place to support us and our objectives we are more likely to follow through and succeed.

Mindfulness can be a really useful tool to help you get the most from your day, but to be mindful requires you to be in a reasonably good headspace to properly achieve it.
More often than not, our heads are full of the pressures of daily life. The school run, getting the shopping, caring for elderly relatives, earning a living, pressures at work, not having enough sleep, and that's before the DIY, the garden the cleaning etc. etc..
So, before progressing to mindfulness, to help us regain some control, some perspective and more mentally balanced mind, instead try to commit to today.
We only have 24 hours in this day. Rather than seeing it a s a problem, how can you make it an opportunity. Yes, be in the day, yes commit to this day (it is the only one guaranteed at the moment) but commit to accepting that you will do your best, be pleased with what you do achieve and acknowledge that you are not superman/woman but you are trying your best and trying to enjoy the journey rather than stressing about what has not yet been achieved.
Be as happy and positive about today as you can manage and be surprised and pleased at how much more you do manage.

One important element of achieving a healthier lifestyle is adjusting your mindset. The mind has a massive influence on our bodies and how we treat and respond to our bodies.
If we learn how to spend more time in our intellectual brains, and make better choices more often, we will be taking more control.
Making conscious decisions to eat less, exercise more, achieve more sleep, whatever our goals may be. Having these goals requires small actions, small changes, mental adjustments and focussed attention.
Take time to sort out the mind before you apply it to helping you sort out the body.

Su***de can be a hard topic of conversation, but it it is a conversation that needs to be had. In the UK & Ireland, someone takes their life every 90 minutes.

Not all suicides are preventable, but do not underestimate the power of genuine human contact and caring. Just giving a person time and space to talk through their thoughts and feelings can make a difference.

Life throws out massive challenges in all sorts of ways, at all stages of our lives. It can be surprisingly easy to let our minds take us into depression and dark places. Reaching out for help, or reaching out to those you are worried about might just be enough to help turn a corner.

We all have different bodies and just like our brains our bodies change over time. Also like our brains, we have more control over our bodies than we might imagine.
And it starts with the brain. How we perceive ourselves and how we treat ourselves will have a massive impact on both our mental and physical wellbeing.
Having a positive body image is the best place to start if you want to make changes to living more healthily. Gaining a more healthy lifestyle is a great goal to aim for, and is entirely achievable with knowledge, patience and support.
It is your body, set some realistic goals and decide on some simple lifestyle changes that will begin to take you towards your goal.
This is more likely to be a marathon than a sprint (no taking up running is not essential) but taking your time, changing your habits, is far more likely to result in lasting changes than adopting the latest diet plan or exercise regime.
I will be promoting a series of sessions to support healthier living this Autumn if you are interested.

Start your day on a high! Just accept this as an honest statement.

We can't stop change, but we can be better at adapting and supporting ourselves and others.
For our little people/youths, back to school is highly stressful which in turn impacts the whole household.
Take time to help them prepare. Ask them how they want things to happen. Give them time and space to allow their brains to process the events of their day.
Do what practical things you can to make the mornings and evenings more calm for everyone.
A little forward thinking and planning can go a long way to smooth the process for our brains to make transitions and meet new challenges.

It's not always easy, but we need to change perspective. We can get caught up in the minutiae of daily living and loose sight of the bigger picture. Yes concentrate on the here and now, enjoy the moment, enjoy the day but also keep checking in on your bigger goals.
Stay curious; ask questions; re-evaluate what is important to you, what really matters.
How we live our lives very much depends on how we see things, how we perceive them, and our perceptions are not fixed, or necessarily right. Try to be open to new views, new ideas, new possibilities.
We ourselves are can often be our biggest limiting factor.

Wanting to do well is great.
Striving for perfection is self destructive.
Be pleased with what you achieve. Learn from what you get wrong rather than be fearful of making mistakes. Mistakes are lessons and there will always be more to learn.
You are never too old, it is never too late to master new skills. Having a go and enjoying the journey is way more beneficial than trying to be the best.

Hopefully everything feels brighter and easier when it is warm and the sun is out. However, this is definitely not always the case, and in fact the expectation of others that you should be able to feel better can actually add pressure and make it worse.
It is not wrong if you aren't feeling sunny in side you. However, if it has been a long while, or you struggle to find your sunny side, reach out for support. There are people there who want to support you and asking for help may be the first positive step towards a brighter you (no matter what the season).
