In addition to the FREE Level 1 City and Guilds qualification in Preparing to work in adult social care, participants will gain the theory element of Care Certificate Standard 15: 😷 Infection Prevention and Control.
At the end of this session, you will:
🦠 Understand what is meant by a ‘pathogen’
🦠 List some of the diseases that can be spread from person to person
🦠 Recognise who may be vulnerable to disease and infection
🦠 Have awareness of the chain of infection
🦠 Describe what you can do to reduce the risk of spreading disease and illness
🦠 Explain the correct way to wash your hands
🦠 List items of personal protective equipment

Health and care workers have little or no opportunities for pay increases and career progression...FALSE!
Health and care providers will work to upskill their staff and promote existing staff members internally, or increase salaries based on qualifications. Many have their own training teams or others will work with local colleges, universities and training providers to support their employees in gaining new skills through bespoke training modules, formal qualifications and apprenticeships.
The more skills and experience you have, the more pay you will be on, just like any other job. There are over three million people in the UK working in health and care including the NHS, social care and independent care providers.
With so many different roles at each level, pay and career opportunities are in reach within health or care moving across the two.

It’s all about personal care and caring for the elderly....FALSE!
It’s true that some roles mean that you could be dealing with bodily fluids. However, that’s not the whole story, as the role will include other elements like companionship, supporting activities, checking that a vulnerable person is ok, or preparing food for them.
Not all clients receive personal care, and the range of roles available such as ambulance worker, chef, occupational therapist and administrator means that it may never be a requirement.
