๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ” Worried you could be at risk of type 2 diabetes? A few changes in your family history, lifestyle or symptoms might mean a lot.
Hereโ€™s what to keep in mind:

โ€ข ๐Ÿ‘ช Family history matters โ€“ If a parent, sibling or relative has diabetes, your own risk goes up.
โ€ข ๐Ÿ” Lifestyle factors count โ€“ Being overweight, inactive or having higher waist size can all raise risk.
โ€ข ๐Ÿšฉ Symptoms might be subtle โ€“ Increased thirst, tiredness or needing to wee more may be signs.

๐Ÿ’Š Get Fast, Expert Care from Your Local Pharmacy โ€“ No GP Appointment Needed!

Patients can now receive treatment and prescriptions for seven common conditions directly from their local pharmacy through the Pharmacy First scheme. This service provides quicker, easier access to care and helps ease pressure on GP services.

Pharmacists can now treat and prescribe medication for:
โ— Earache โ€“ ages 1 to 17
โ— Impetigo โ€“ 1 year and older
โ— Infected insect bites โ€“ 1 year and older
โ— Shingles โ€“ 18 years and older
โ— Sinusitis โ€“ 12 years and over
โ— Sore throat โ€“ 5 years and over
โ— Uncomplicated urinary tract infections โ€“ women 16 to 64 years

You can access the service by visiting your local pharmacy or contacting them virtually. GP receptionists, NHS 111, and emergency care providers can also direct you to a participating pharmacy.

Pharmacists can also offer advice and over-the-counter medication for a wide range of everyday conditions such as coughs, colds, flu, aches, pains, and skin rashes โ€” no appointment needed.

Many pharmacies are open evenings and weekends and have private consultation rooms where you can speak in confidence.

Bullying can happen anywhere: in schools, workplaces, online, even in organisations up and down the ladder. It affects everyone.

๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Lung Cancer Awareness Month is here - and this year, weโ€™re shining a light on the connections between lung health, coughs, and family cancer history.

A persistent cough might be dismissed as a cold or heart issue โ€” but sometimes, itโ€™s more than that. If it lingers, gets worse, or you have other symptoms, get it checked.

Key point: family history of cancer doesnโ€™t only mean the same cancer you have. When your doctor asks, they mean any cancer your relatives have had. This information can help assess your risk and guide decisions.

๐Ÿง ๐ŸŒ€ Feeling overwhelmed? Stress isnโ€™t just โ€œpart of lifeโ€ โ€” it can affect your body, mind and behaviour in real ways.

Hereโ€™s what you might experience:
โœ”๏ธ Physical: headaches, muscle tension, stomach issues, chestโ€‘racing heartbeats
โœ”๏ธ Mental: trouble concentrating, making decisions, constant worrying
โœ”๏ธ Behavioural: irritability, sleep too much or too little, eating changes, pulling away from others

When stress becomes longโ€‘term, it can lead to burnout โ€” extreme exhaustion, cynicism, reduced performance.

You donโ€™t have to cope with it alone.

๐Ÿ— Food Safety / Food Poisoning
โ€ข Donโ€™t let food sit out too long - especially meats or salads

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fire & Fireworks Safety
โ€ข Always follow firework instructions carefully
โ€ข Keep a safe distance
โ€ข Never relight a dud firework
โ€ข Always supervise children
โ€ข Have a bucket of water or hose nearby in case of fire

๐Ÿ’™ Itโ€™s not too late to get your flu vaccine!

Everyone aged 65 and over is eligible for a free NHS flu vaccine.

You might think you donโ€™t need it because youโ€™re feeling well โ€” but people aged 65 and over are at higher risk of flu-related complications and need that extra protection.

Even if you had your flu jab last year, itโ€™s important to get one again this year to stay protected through the winter. ๐Ÿ’‰

Help protect yourself and those around you.

๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ”ช Thinking of carving up a spooky pumpkin this Halloween? Before you do, hereโ€™s how to stay safe - and how to keep your sugar intake in check ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿฌ

How to carve a pumpkin safely:
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Use a clean, dry, well-lit area with a sturdy surface.
๐Ÿงผ Wash and thoroughly dry your hands and tools to avoid slips.
๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Use a proper pumpkin carving kit (small serrated saws) instead of large kitchen knives.
๐Ÿ”„ Always cut away from your body and use small, controlled motions.
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Leave the carving to adults; kids can draw the design or scoop out pulp.
โš ๏ธ If you get cut and heavy bleeding continues for more than 15 minutes, seek medical care.

Too many sweets can impact your health in more ways than one.
Read how sugar affects your body and tips for moderating consumption:

Balance is everything - carve safely, enjoy treats mindfully, and take care.
