It’s
So I wanted to share a very special post about one of my clients, Kate, who has BBS.
What is Bardet–Biedl Syndrome?
Bardet–Biedl Syndrome (BBS) is a rare, inherited condition. It’s known as a ciliopathy, meaning the tiny hair-like structures in the body called cilia don’t function properly. One of the main symptoms is sight loss, alongside a range of other symptoms that vary from person to person.
In the UK, only around 700 people are known to have BBS — which means many health professionals may never have even come across it.
And yet… meet Kate. 🤍
Kate is my current client who attends both Mat Pilates and Reformer sessions. Despite her condition and being registered as blind, Kate enjoys life to the fullest and is one of the most active people I know.
Every single day she keeps active — whether that’s at the gym, walking club or horse riding. Movement is part of who she is.
Kate is such a valued part of our Pilates community, bringing joy, laughter and happiness into every class. She reminds us all that strength isn’t defined by what you can see — but by what you choose to do.
Awareness matters. Inclusion matters ✨
