This Christmas, remember to look after your eyes and try to avoid accidental eye injuries. Look out for sharp edges and projectile toys, and wear safety goggles to protect the eyes when you can. We reopen on Monday 29th if you need help or if you need help before then, call 111.

Cosy nights at home, in front of the fire can cause or irritate dry eyes. Winter heating dries out indoor air, which can worsen dry eyes by increasing tear evaporation. This can also worsen if you are looking at a screen for a prolonged period of time, as you blink less.
But you can find relief with
- artificial tears for quick lubrication,
- avoiding direct heat, keeping airflow away from your face
- staying hydrated, plenty of water or hot drink like tea to hydrate from within (limit dehydrating warms drinks like coffee)
- applying a warm compress to help oil glands function better
- reduce screen time, taking regular breaks
- Nutrition - Omega 3 fatty acid supplements like fish oil can support tear film health.
