I promised a Parkinson's client I would write this, after an initial assessment yesterday to just make people aware.
Parkinson's is a specialist area. The right kind of neuro physiotherapy treatment can make the world of difference to someone's long term outcome. Assessment involves relevant Parkinson's outcome measures, tailored specialist Parkinson's exercises, functional everyday task modification, Parkinson's medication awareness, sensory intergration, holistic advice with diet, new areas of research etc, cueing strategies.....the list goes on.
Unfortunately this client had spent a lot of time, money and effort with well intentioned but non- specialist physiotherapist doing irrelevant exercises and untargeted treatment (not local).
Check list questions to ask ✔️
Is your physio a neuro-specialist?
How much experience do they have with people with Parkinson's?
What Parkinson's specific training have they had?
Are they recommended by Parkinson's UK?
Bev Ball Physio: over 15 years specialising in Parkinson's, Parkinson's UK recommended, PD Warrior trained, LSVT Big trained, member of the Parkinson's Excellence Network. Will make a difference in your walking after one session 🙌
Physiotherapists have different specialities.....
You wouldn't see a knee surgeon for heart surgery 🤷♀️
