Do I have any followers with a child currently studying for their driving test? If so, please can you let me know if this change has happened?

It was widely shared last summer that first aid questions were going to be added to the UK driving theory test from early 2026.

However, I can't find any evidence online to say whether this has been implemented. So please can you let me know if it has and what sort of questions have been included?

In Europe, they have to do a practical first aid course in addition to the theory test, so hopefully the UK has taken one step closer to this sensible benchmark.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-theory-test-questions-aim-to-boost-cardiac-arrest-survival-rate

From 2026, driving theory tests will include new CPR questions and, for the first time, questions about defibrillators to boost cardiac arrest survival.

There is always a genuine worry on all my courses that you may crack a rib when performing chest compressions, especially with older people who are more prone to osteoporosis.

CPR is only necessary when the heart has already stopped, so I promise you really can't make them any worse.

Remember the rule of thumb of 'life over limb' when prioritising your actions. If they do start breathing again because of your actions, then they will be thankful forever, regardless of their broken ribs!

Also please don't believe anyone who says that 'if you don't crack a rib, you aren't pressing hard enough'. A third of the body depth is just fine!

I had an inspiring evening at the South West Business and Community Awards at DoubleTree by Hilton Swindon recently, organised by Great British Expo's Ltd.

My partner in crime for the event was Paula from Mywhitedog, who I have known for over 20 years from our expedition leading days, when we were mostly seen in walking boots with rucksacks, rather than glamorous black tie!

I felt so proud to be shortlisted in 2 categories but was completely outclassed by the winners in both.

These photos were taken by the lovely Elizabeth Watts Photography who was on duty, but we also shared a table with Photography by Fran who won her Solopreneur category 👏

The cases of Meningitis in young people in Kent at the moment are scary.

Do you know the signs and symptoms of Meningitis?

Read my blog at https://worsleytraining.co.uk/meningitis/ for a brief overview.

Also if you have a child aged 15-24, please check what strains of Meningitis they have been and can be vaccinated against, as they are a high risk group.

All parents of school aged children should be hugely grateful to the Blythe family, and all the other campaigners, who have made this happen......

"For 4 years, we have campaigned for Benedict’s Law so that no child faces the preventable gaps in allergy safety that cost our 5-year-old son his life.

We are grateful the government has listened, and that from September schools will be required to have allergy pens, training and policies in place — protections that were not there when Benedict joined his school.

Knowing that future children will enter a system far safer than the one he did is a powerful and lasting legacy for our son Benedict."

Life-saving allergy pens must be stocked by schools for the first time under new plans announced today.

Does your first aid knowledge need a little refresh?

Most first aid certificates last for 3 years, during which time your first aid skills and knowledge will inevitably fade, potentially with serious consequences. As a result it is strongly recommended that you attend an annual update to refresh the emergency topics and receive any protocol updates.

My interactive, 2 hour virtual sessions are suitable for all sectors, as I cover both adult and paediatric protocols. There is always time to ask questions and I make it appropriate for whoever is on the call.

It demonstrates best practice and ensures your first aid knowledge is kept up to date, all from the comfort of your own home or workplace! Please note that attendance does not extend the validity of your existing qualification but does count for CPD hours (certificate provided).

Course content:
🔹️Incident management
🔹️Unconscious casualties
🔹️The safe airway position
🔹️Choking
🔹️CPR
🔹️Defibrillator use

Cost: £25 (2 people are welcome to share a screen)

To book: visit https://worsleytraining.co.uk/book-a-course/ and scroll down to your chosen date.

Previous feedback: “Really useful refresher training course. It was my first experience of an online first aid training course but Louise created a relaxed and welcoming learning environment and delivered the content in an engaging way, where you felt able to ask any questions. Thank you!” Becky, Google review

As always, please do ask if you have any queries.

Surround yourself with a bunch of women that inspire and uplift you. Not just on International Women's Day but every moment you can!

I'm very lucky to have spent have 4 days on the slopes in the sunshine last week with this incredible bunch of women, all of whom are juggling work, husbands, children and everything else, in an impressive and fully capable manner. It was a joy! It's our 11th year running (bar lockdowns) and I call it my annual reset button.

So, prompted by International Women's Day yesterday and with a full appreciation of the importance of looking after your mental health, I urge you all to check in with at least one of your female friends that inspires and uplifts you. Give them a call, meet up for a drink or book a weekend away. The health benefits are immeasurable 😊

Apparently Monday was National Old Stuff Day?!

So it's very appropriate to share this first aid poster that I found in my mother-in-laws cupboard from 1970.

The main thing that intrigues me is the 'coma' position for unconscious casualties. I've always said the 'recovery' position is a ridiculous name for it, as rolling them over doesn't make them recover, but it also doesn't put them into a coma! I call it the 'safe airway' position when I'm teaching as that is what it does.

A few other things have changed since 1970, but I love that giving simple instructions for how to save a life are still as prevalent as ever.

What 'old stuff' have you re-discovered recently?

You never know when your first aid skills and knowledge may be required, but I always say that 'it is better to know it and not need it, than need it and not know it'.

Without Simon Parker's training, he hears his partner could have died in the incident.

Easter eggs are now everywhere! So a good time to share these top tips from Debbie - The Early Years Specialist. I especially like the one about the parent eating any mini eggs!!

Easter Egg Safety : An Important Reminder for Parents and Carers 🐣

Easter eggs are in shops earlier every year, but the message about small eggs and choking hazards shouldn’t wait until Easter.

Small, mini, or tiny solid chocolate and sugar-coated eggs can pose a serious risk to babies and young children.
Their size and shape are similar to a child’s airway, which means they can get lodged and cause choking even when children seem old enough to handle them.

Practical safety steps for parents and carers:
• Always supervise children when eating
• Ensure children sit down and do not walk or run with food
• Crush mini eggs inside a food bag before giving them
• Cut eggs lengthwise into quarters, similar to grapes
• Offer hollow eggs to children and enjoy the small ones yourself
• Stay confident with paediatric first aid and choking procedures by taking a certified course with Worsley Training ( our partner in practice )

Sharing this information could help prevent serious accidents. Please share with your network. A few simple precautions can save lives
