Happier people walk more

Got a smile on your dial? Maybe you’re a keen walker already.

Experts at mental health charity the Mindshift Foundation say walking 30 minutes a day can help reduce your stress levels, alleviate anxiety, boost the production of the brain’s happy chemicals such as endorphins and help you to relax. That’s backed up by a UK study that showed people who did regular moderate physical activity such as walking were 30% less likely to become depressed.

Summer Solstice ☀️marks the longest day and the shortest night .
Summer in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the most yang time of the year. Corresponding to the Fire element, a time for heat, we will find growth both in nature and our own lives. The fire element is associated with the Heart/ Small intestine, the emotion of joy, the colour red and bitter taste. Our heart is responsible for pumping blood throughout our body and in TCM it also houses our “shen” or spirit. When the fire element is balanced and in harmony, the heart is pumping strong and is healthy, the spirit is calm and sleep is sound. When the fire element is unbalanced or in disharmony, depression or insomnia and digestive complaints may arise.

TCM based Nutrition categorizes food based on their energetic properties and temperature. Eating foods that are moistening and cool in nature will help to keep you hydrated.

* Add cucumber or mint to your water
* Eat more fruit and veggies, take advantage of farmers markets and eat what’s in season Examples: lettuce, watermelon, spinach, corn, broccoli, asparagus, watercress
* Watermelon is excellent at cooling the body while keeping the fluids up, as are cooling cups of chrysanthemum and goji berry or peppermint tea.
* Avoid hot, greasy or spicy food
* Add more seafood and fish to your diet

As we emerge from lockdown there may be a need to address mental health . Overwhelm and insecurity about the future .
Healing comes from within . Our positive thoughts can take us to our happy place .
Take a moment and recall an occasion that you loved and where you had a wonderful time. Try to re-experience the great feeling you had there. Breathe easily, but slowly as you recall this, and sustain this feeling for a minute or two.
Did you know that this simple exercise raised your heart coherence and balanced your mental, emotional and physical systems?
How do you feel? Chances are you feel more relaxed or peaceful.

Lateral Ankle Sprain Taping.

◾️ This is the most common ankle sprain that most people have.

◾️One of the things you can do is get some sports tape ( K - Tape) and apply it yourself as shown.

◾️Make sure you use 2 long strips and one shorter strip.

◾️ K-Tape has been shown to help relieve pain in joints/ligaments & muscles. It also noticeably helps bruising.

◾️ Rest, ice, elevation & compression are important to do as well.

◾️ This is a very basic way of applying it, so that its easy to do straight away.

◾️If you see a practitioner it may be done differently. There are many ways to tape an ankle.

◾️ For more info on where to get sports tape or if you are thinking to try it DM any questions.

The glute bridge 🌉

An exercise that helps reduce lower back & hip pain by strengthening the buttock muscles, the external rotator muscles of the hip & the IT band (side of the thigh).

Lie face up on the floor, with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Lift your hips off the ground until your knees, hips and shoulders form a straight line. Squeeze those glutes hard and keep your abs drawn in so you don't overextend your back during the exercise.

Try and hold the stretch for 5-10 seconds.

Immune boosting foods to have this lockdown.
It has never been more important to look after your health. Eating healthier foods can help contribute to a stronger immune system which can fight off infections.

"Unless you eat a wide variety of foods, you may be missing out on important minerals and vitamins
In particular, the antioxidants otherwise known as vitamins A, C, and E, as well as the "sunshine" vitamin, vitamin D, and the mineral selenium.
A diet rich in antioxidants has been linked to a host of health-promoting, disease-fighting activities in the body.
Antioxidant-rich foods include:
* Vitamin A and beta-carotene: pumpkin, squash, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, cantaloupes, dark leafy greens, and mangoes
*
* Vitamin C: citrus fruits, strawberries, bell peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, and asparagus
* Vitamin E: vegetable oil, almonds, whole grains, wheat germ, sweet potatoes, and yams
* Selenium: salmon and haddock
Sometimes food cannot provide enough of a certain nutrient. In these cases, supplements can be useful in supporting your natural immunity.
Alongside this ensure adequate sleep , exercise and keep the stress levels down .
