👉 S – Speech: Is their speech slurred or strange?
👉 T – Time: If you see any of these signs, call 999 immediately.

Getting treatment fast can make a huge difference to recovery.
Don’t wait. Don’t ignore the signs.

🤧 Flu or Common Cold? How to Tell the Difference — and What to Do 🌡️

Cold and flu season is here, and it’s easy to confuse the two. Here’s how to spot the difference:

💡 Common Cold:
➡️ Comes on gradually
➡️ Mild tiredness
➡️ Runny or blocked nose, sore throat, cough
➡️ Rarely causes a fever

🔥 Flu (Influenza):

➡️ Starts suddenly
➡️ High temperature, chills, body aches
➡️ Extreme tiredness, headache
➡️ Dry cough, sometimes chest pain

🩺 What You Can Do:

✅ Rest – Give your body time to recover.
✅ Keep hydrated – Drink plenty of fluids.
✅ Ease symptoms – Paracetamol or ibuprofen can help with fever and aches
✅ Ask your pharmacist – Your local pharmacist can advise on suitable treatments and when to seek further help.
✅ Seek medical advice – Contact your GP or NHS 24 (111) if symptoms are severe, or you’re in a higher-risk group (such as older adults, young children, or people with long-term health conditions).

💊 Remember: Antibiotics don’t work for viral infections like colds or flu.

💉 Get protected: The flu vaccine is the best way to help prevent flu and reduce serious illness.

Stay well this winter — and look out for those around you. 💙

📞 When you feel you need on-the-day medical advice - please Call Early! ⏰

We’re seeing a large increase in patients calling throughout the day for on-the-day medical advice.

If you feel you need to be seen or speak to a clinician on the same day, please call us as early as possible - our phone lines open at 🕣 8:30am.

📋 Calling early helps our clinical team plan their day safely and ensures we can offer timely care to those who need it most.

⚠️ When calls come in later in the day, our on-the-day appointments may already be full — and to keep patients and staff safe, we may need to direct you to alternative services.

💙 Thank you for your understanding and support!

🦠✨ Infection Prevention Week: 19th – 25th October ✨🦠

This week, let’s come together to raise awareness about how simple actions can prevent the spread of infections and protect those most vulnerable in our communities—like babies, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. 🧒👵🧑‍⚕️

Infections can spread quickly through everyday contact, but many infections are preventable with good habits! Here’s how you can help:

🧼 Wash your hands properly and often - especially before eating, after using the bathroom, and after coughing or sneezing.
💉 Keep up to date with vaccinations to protect yourself and others from serious diseases.
😷 Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow to stop germs spreading.
🚫 Stay home when you’re unwell to avoid passing infections on.

Together, these simple steps help keep our community safe and healthy! 💪🌍

📢 Important Notice About Prescription Requests 📢

We understand that many of you have been having trouble getting through to the local pharmacy due to ongoing phone line issues. Unfortunately, this has led to a big increase in patients calling the surgery to request prescriptions.

Just a reminder: we do not take prescription requests over the phone. This is to help keep our phone lines free for urgent medical queries and appointments.

📝 How to request your prescription:
✅ Email – You can send your request to fv.tor@nhs.scot
✅ In person – Complete a repeat prescription request form and post it in the box at the surgery

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while the pharmacy works on resolving their phone issue. If they provide an alternative way to contact them in the meantime, we’ll be sure to share it with you.

Thank you for helping us keep our phone lines clear for those who need us most.
