We all have experienced our mind wandering instead of focusing on what we are doing in that moment in time. Did you know we in fact spend 40% of our waking life in this state?

Not focusing on the task at hand, but somewhere else entirely in our minds eye. These interludes are brief diversions from our current world.

Perhaps it’s planning your future..
Or focusing inward to recalibrate..

When we are in a good headspace, we call this natural state ‘daydreaming’
But when we are feeling unhappy & low, this state translates as ‘worry’

Worry happens when we reflect and ruminate negatively on our lives, catastrophizing hypothetical situations that we have no control over, or that will never happen anyway. It is the biggest misuse of our imagination.

Mindful daydreaming promotes emotional and physical health. When we use our imagination as a tool for health and wellness, we heal and elevate our state of mind to think more creatively.

At the heart of creativity is a wealth of new and valuable ideas, so when we think creatively we imagine new possibilities. This way we can catch interesting ideas and answers to challenges we might face in our daily lives, becoming solution focused through mindful daydreams.

Beginning to develop a level of meta-awareness of your thoughts is key to mastering utilising this naturally occurring state for your benefit. That way you can stop daydreaming if you start thinking negative thoughts or ruminating too much on problems and concerns.

In psychology and cognitive science, The Simplicity Principle posits that the mind by nature draws interpretations and representations of the world that are as simple as possible, or, at least, that are biased towards simplicity (Chater, 1997; Chater & Vitányi, 2003).

We as creatures, have a natural preference for simplicity. It helps us to interpret, process, and find grounding in life. but, in a fast paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the humdrum..

So just remember to trust that your mind will naturally come to the perfect conclusion each day. There's no need to actively think about the complexities of a problem in order to find the solution. In fact, the less you think about it... The more space you create to discover solutions.
