💛 A quick heads up for people in Plymouth

We have recently seen more overdoses than usual linked to substances that slow breathing (such as he**in or pregabalin).

We want People to be aware So they can take extra care.

⚠️ Signs someone may be overdosing
• They will not wake up or respond (unconscious)
• Slow breathing or not breathing
• Loud snoring, choking or gurgling sounds
• Blue lips

🚑 What to do if someone becomes unwell

Please call 999 immediately or attend Derriford A&E — do not wait.
Healthcare staff are there to help, not judge.

If you can:
• Place them in the recovery position if they are breathing
• Use naloxone if you have it — even if you are unsure what they have taken

Naloxone will not harm them, and sometimes drugs contain opioids even when they are not sold as such.

⚠️ Stay with them for 20 minutes or help arrives— people can go back into overdose after naloxone wears off.

🫁 If someone is unconscious and not breathing
• Call 999 immediately

Start CPR:

👉 Give 2 rescue breaths first

👉 Then give 30 chest compressions

Repeat:

➡️ 2 breaths
➡️ 30 compressions

Continue this cycle.

👉 Give naloxone as soon as possible while continuing CPR

Continue until:
• They start breathing, or
• Help arrives

Some overdoses may require more than one dose of naloxone.

🛑 Staying safer

If you are using:
• Try not to use alone
• Start with a small amount first
• Leave time between doses
• If with others, stagger use rather than all at once
• Ideally, ensure someone has naloxone

If you do use alone, consider letting someone know so they can check in on you.

💉 Carry naloxone

Naloxone saves lives and is available locally from:
• Harbour – Hyde Park House, Mutley Plain
📞 01752 434343
• Naloxone Advocates Plymouth CIC
📞 +44 7561 349137
• Hamoaze House
📞 01752 566100

Carry it if you can — it could save someone’s life.

🧪 Checking substances

You can:
• Use legal reagent tests
• Send anonymous samples to WEDINOS for testing

📢 Reporting concerns

If you come across unusually strong or contaminated substances, you can report this here:

Please look out for one another 💛
