Safety is not an add-on to hyperbaric therapy.
It is its foundation.
That is why, during EUBS 2025, Hyperbaric Safety Talks was created — a space for conversations that carry real value for everyday practice.
Today, we are taking the next step:
the abstracts from the first edition of Hyperbaric Safety Talks are now available on the EBAss website.
They capture the topics, experiences and perspectives of nurses, operators and technicians who help shape the culture of safety in hyperbaric medicine.
Read them. Take inspiration from them. Bring a fresh perspective back to practice.

Did you know?
Hyperbaric chambers are medical devices used to deliver treatment in a controlled, pressurised environment. Across Europe, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is delivered in specialised medical centres under strict safety standards. The European Code of Good Practice for HBOT sets the baseline for how hyperbaric facilities operate — from equipment and maintenance to emergency procedures, staff training and patient safety. Its 2022 update also introduced the role of the Safety Manager, reinforcing the importance of oversight, risk assessment and preparedness. EBAss/ECHM certification pathways further support dedicated training for chamber operators, nurses and safety managers.
HBOT is not a wellness trend.
It is a regulated medical therapy delivered by trained multidisciplinary teams in controlled clinical environments.

Why the European Code of Good Practice for HBOT matters
Safety in hyperbaric medicine is not based on individual experience alone—it requires clear standards, defined responsibilities, and structured risk management.
The European Code of Good Practice for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (2022) provides a practical framework for safe and high-quality HBOT delivery in both monoplace and multiplace facilities.
📌 Why it is essential reading for hyperbaric teams and centres:
✔ Defines roles and responsibilities within the hyperbaric team
✔ Sets minimum staffing and competency requirements
✔ Emphasises SOPs, emergency preparedness, and training
✔ Addresses key risks such as oxygen safety, fire prevention, and occupational exposure
✔ Supports quality assurance, accountability, and accreditation efforts
📣 Whether you are a clinician, nurse, operator, or manager, this Code helps translate patient safety into everyday clinical and operational practice.
👉 We encourage all hyperbaric professionals to read and apply the Code in their daily work.

Why does EBAss certification truly matter for nurses and hyperbaric chamber operators?
EBAss certification is not just another course certificate.
It is a pan-European competency standard developed in line with recommendations of the European Committee for Hyperbaric Medicine (ECHM) and European best practices in hyperbaric medicine.
👩‍⚕️👨‍🔧 What are the real benefits for nurses and operators?
✔ Recognised validation of professional competence
EBAss certification confirms that your knowledge and skills meet European standards for safety, quality, and professional practice in hyperbaric facilities.
✔ Professional mobility across Europe
A unified European certification system facilitates employment in hyperbaric centres in different countries, reducing the need for repeated local validation of competencies.
✔ Career development and specialisation
Certification supports progression into specialised roles such as hyperbaric nurse, chamber operator, or safety manager, and provides a structured pathway for continued professional development.
✔ Increased professional credibility
Holding an EBAss certificate demonstrates alignment with current ECHM recommendations and European Codes of Good Practice—an important signal for employers and clinical teams.
✔ Enhanced patient and staff safety
Standardised education improves preparedness for working in high-risk hyperbaric environments and strengthens safety culture within clinical teams.
📌 EBAss certification is an investment in competence, responsibility, and quality of care—not merely a formal credential.
