Meet the Team | Konstantina Gaitanou- the President of the EBAss Education Committee.
A Rear Admiral (Ret.) of the Hellenic Navy, she brings extensive leadership and administrative experience in military healthcare services. She previously served as Director of the Nursing Department at the Naval Hospital of Athens, with overall responsibility for nursing policy, personnel management, quality of care, and strategic planning.
For 15 years, she was Head of the Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Unit at the Naval Hospital of Athens, overseeing clinical operations, specialized nursing services, and multidisciplinary teams in diving and hyperbaric medicine.
Academically, she is an Associate Professor at the Lifelong Learning Centre of the University of Thessaly and teaches in a postgraduate programme at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, including Hyperbaric Nursing among her subjects. She holds a PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, focused on the clinical assessment of HBOT in patients with Sudden Hearing Loss (SHL).
In her free time, she is actively involved in a volunteer group supporting vulnerable individuals in the community — and she enjoys traveling and exploring different countries and cultures.

Meet the Team | Angeliki Chandrinou- the President of EBAss

Angeliki holds ECHRN, ECHCO, and ECHSM certifications and has extensive experience in hyperbaric medicine.
She is specialised in hyperbaric oxygen therapy and works at the Naval Hospital of Athens. She is also an academic, serving as an Associate Professor at the Lifelong Learning Centre of the University of Thessaly and lecturing in a postgraduate programme at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where she teaches Hyperbaric Nursing among other subjects.
Outside of her professional work, Angeliki enjoys travelling and discovering new places.

On the EBAss website, our Evidence section is regularly updated with scientific literature relevant to hyperbaric nurses, operators, and technicians.
Currently available articles include:
- Safety of ICU HBOT: A 2025 study analyzed 176 ICU patients receiving hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and identified key risk factors for adverse events during transport and treatment.
- DCS in Hyperbaric Caregiver Staff (25-Year Review): A retrospective review of a Polish hyperbaric care facility from 2024. Only six cases of DCS were recorded among medical staff during 41,507 chamber sessions, demonstrating that, although DCS in medical staff is rare, it does occur.
