Relate Plymouth

Relate Plymouth Relate Plymouth and South Devon has been providing affordable counselling in Plymouth and South Devon for over 70 years.

We know that sometimes relationships aren’t easy. They are subject to all the stresses and strains of daily life and can be difficult. Weathering bad times together, working through solutions or even learning to endure what can’t be improved, all add a depth and commitment to a relationship. To survive these difficulties, however, the problems must be faced. We offer a range of counselling services for those who are having difficulties with their relationships, including:

◾Relationship counselling
◾Family counselling
◾Sex therapy
◾Children and young people’s counselling
◾Divorce / separation counselling
◾Help for parents

We also offer a range of training services to help your business, be it corporate or voluntary and community based, deal with issues or problems effectively and efficiently.

Fed up with your relationship??

When you start a new relationship, everything can be exciting. Those early flickers of attraction, feeling butterflies, that first kiss......

It can be a roller coaster of emotion. But after a while things tend to level off a bit, your relationship may be a bit more predictable, in fact you may feel a bit bored. But looking for solutions somewhere else is rarely the best way. It's much better to begin to by thinking about what is happening in the here and now.

If you are finding it hard to talk about any tricky issues, Relate Plymouth offers affordable, safe and confidential counselling where you can be open and honest.

Call us on 01752 213131 or email relateplymouth@googlemail.com

"Emotional upset can throw even the best prepared candidate off course. One of the many victims of teenage heartbreak, Zak Rosenfeld, found he couldn’t concentrate-or care-about exams when his relationship broke up. Denise Knowles, Relate councillor, says you need to acknowledge that you’ve had bad news, and that it’s going to impact on you on an emotional level. But recognise that it’s not going to last forever."

With exam season looming, we ask students to tell us about their test hall disasters – and experts for advice on how to cope with them

"Rupi Rai, family lawyer at Slater and Gordon, said: "With more people having access to social media and advances in technology, we have seen a rise in the number of clients coming to us who think their partner has crossed the line and committed adultery, but not in the traditional sense"

An expert said: "The research is a real warning to couples about being careful not to cross that line"

"I found myself saying the same thing that I said to my female friends to reassure them about their bodies – ‘you’re fine just as you are,’ but he didn’t believe it. When I was told the same thing by my friends I would never believe them either, but that was different, I thought. I was trying to work out a lot too but I thought there was a big difference between him and me: he wanted to be bigger, I wanted to be thinner."

"Relationship psychologist Corinne Sweet believes evolving gender roles mean men are more comfortable with talking about their feelings while women are becoming less and less willing to reveal their emotions. Working in competitive, male-dominated environments can leave women unable to get in touch with their softer side."

Whenever Alan Semp tells his wife Janey he loves her, she responds not by repeating those all-important three little words, but with two rather less romantic ones: ‘Yeah, right!’
