Relational Psychotherapy

Relational Psychotherapy Welcome to Relational Psychotherapy. I'm a counsellor, psychotherapist, EMDR practitioner, bereavement specialist, and hypnotherapist.

I offer sessions in Plymouth and online worldwide. It’s a privilege to support people through meaningful change. Fully qualified person-centred counsellor who specialises in bereavement counselling. The service I offer to you
Most people experience times in their lives when their feelings and their life as a whole seems totally unmanageable. Those moments are often described as ‘not being able to see the wood for the trees’- times when we feel that no one understands and we do not know which way to turn. Seeing a counsellor can often help you to gain a different perspective on life and see things more clearly. I believe that every person deserves the opportunity to be heard and to be given the chance to work through their problems in a safe and confidential space. I am a fully qualified member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapist (BACP) which requires me to work in an ethical way under their umbrella. This way you can be confident that I meet a certain standard to ensure I work in a safe and confidential manner. I want you to be aware your needs are at the heart of my practice. I will be totally committed to supporting you, and together we can discover what is the best way to achieve your goals. My aim is to help you find the “real you” again and to help you to move forward, to cope with whatever the future might bring. I work in a way which will focus on you and listen without judgment or criticism. This will help you to discover new ways of dealing with your problems. My way of working is not to tell you what you should do, but I would hope to empower you to move forward in your own way. I hope in reading this it gives you a sense of how we might be able to work together and I would like to encourage you to contact me to make those first initial steps towards change.

🎄 Do Christmas Your Way 🎄
This is your reminder that you’re allowed to do Christmas in a way that supports your mental health 🧠✨
That might mean:
✔️ fewer plans
✔️ lower expectations
✔️ more rest
✔️ saying no without guilt
You don’t owe anyone a perfect version of you.
You only owe yourself care, kindness, and honesty 🤍
Gentle Christmas > perfect Christmas 🌿

✨ Don’t Worry About Failing — Worry About the Chances You Never Took ✨
Failure gets a bad reputation.
We’re taught to fear it, avoid it, overthink it…
as if failing says something terrible about who we are.
But here’s a quieter truth I see again and again:
Most people don’t regret the things that didn’t work out.
They regret the conversations they didn’t have,
the boundaries they didn’t set,
the dreams they kept parked “for later”,
the opportunities they talked themselves out of.
Failure often teaches.
Avoidance just keeps things the same.
Trying — even when it’s messy, awkward, or imperfect — is how growth happens 🌱
Not everything will work.
Not everything is meant to last.
But movement matters.
And sometimes the bravest thing isn’t succeeding…
it’s starting.
✨ A gentle invitation:
Ask yourself today — what am I avoiding because I’m afraid it won’t go perfectly?
Then take one small step anyway.
You don’t have to leap.
Just lean.
Future-you will thank you 🤍

✨ A Gentle Investment in Wellbeing ✨
If you’ve been thinking about starting therapy — or know someone who could really benefit from a supportive, confidential space — this may be the right time.

I’m offering a block of 6 therapy sessions for £420
(available for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for someone else 🤍)

Therapy can support you to slow down, reflect, and make sense of what’s going on — especially during times of change, stress, or emotional overwhelm.

🌟 One Step at a Time — You Will Get There 🌟
Christmas has a funny way of turning the volume up on everything.
The expectations.
The pressure.
The “shoulds”.
The inner perfectionist suddenly shouting: “This has to be magical!!” 🎁😅
Let me say this clearly (and kindly):
You do not need to do Christmas perfectly to get through it.
You just need to do it enough.
One meal at a time 🍽️
One conversation at a time 💬
One deep breath at a time 🌬️
Progress right now doesn’t look like thriving —
it looks like showing up imperfectly and letting that be okay.
If your tree is up late 🎄
If you’ve cancelled plans 🚫
If you’re surviving on snacks and sarcasm 🍫🙃
If your heart feels heavy this year ❤️‍🩹
You’re not doing it wrong.
You’re being human.
Here’s your gentle permission slip ✍️
Drop the perfection driver.
Lower the bar.
Choose rest over performance.
Because doing enough is enough.
✨ Call to action:
Be kind to yourself today — not in a grand way, but a small one.
Say no without explaining.
Take a break without guilt.
Speak to yourself the way you would to someone you care about.
One step at a time.
You will get there 🤍 Hugs Jon x

✨ A gentle check-in ✨
I wanted to pop on here and say a heartfelt apology for the quietness on this page over the last eight weeks. No posts, no updates — and I know some of you will have noticed.
The truth is, I’ve been deeply immersed in finishing my clinical supervision course, alongside holding a full and busy private practice.
And if I’m honest… this time of year is a lot.
As a therapist, I see it every day — Christmas can bring warmth and connection for some, but for others it brings grief, loneliness, pressure, exhaustion, or the weight of expectations that don’t quite fit. There’s no single way to experience this season, and all of it is valid.
From my chair in the therapy room, I want to say this:
You are not failing if you’re just getting through.
You are not behind if you’re tired.
And you are not broken if this time of year feels hard.
I truly believe hope exists — but often not in the loud, shiny ways. Sometimes it’s found in small moments: a pause, a kind word, a breath, a boundary, choosing rest when the world tells you to keep pushing. Hope doesn’t always shout — sometimes it whispers, “You’re doing enough.”
Thank you for your patience, your presence, and your quiet support while this page has been still. I’m looking forward to sharing more again when the time feels right — slowly, intentionally, and with the same care I try to bring into the therapy room.
Be gentle with yourselves.
You are allowed to move at your own pace 🤍
— Jon
