Are you suffering with vertigo or dizziness?
Did you know that osteopaths can help you with that?
Sometimes we forget to blow our own trumpets but vertigo and dizziness are symptoms we can help with. And a grateful patient recently told me that I need to make sure you all know about this!!
If your vertigo or dizziness is a result of muscle tension or joint restrictions in the neck and shoulders, osteopathy can help relieve you of it.
If, like my recent patient, your vertigo is caused by dislodged otic stones, this is Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and is something an osteopath can help with.
The otic stones are part of your balance system, which is why you feel unsteady when they are out of place.
We can check if BPPV is the likely cause of your vertigo and use the Epley manoeuvre to start repositioning the stones.
We don’t always know why these stones come loose, unless, like my patient, you do a lot of diving and tumbling or other acrobatics! But we do know how to help you reposition them.
Sometimes vertigo or dizziness is caused by an ear infection, Meniere’s, or labyrinthitis. These are harder to affect with osteopathy but if we think that might be the case, we can give you advice, tell you if you need to see a GP and it’s still possible that working with the facial bones to improve drainage might help your symptoms.
So book in with me if you need help with vertigo or dizziness. Kate Turner

DISCS DON’T SLIP

👉🏼Have you or a friend/family member ever been told your disc has “slipped”?

👉🏼I’m here to tell you… although you may have injured a disc in your back-they absolutely do not slip anywhere.

👉🏼 Your discs are incredibly strong. Healthy discs are DESIGNED to withstand force and load. Especially in your lower back, where the most movement takes place.

👉🏼 In fact, there are several biomechanical features within each disc that help prevent disc injuries like bulges/herniations.

✅ If you do injure a disc in your back, don’t panic! Osteopaths often use a combination of soft tissue release, articulation, mobilisation, stretching and manipulations to help you heal.

Megan is in clinic Mondays, Tuesdays alternate Thursdays and Saturdays.

Should I see a GP with my symptoms?

It depends! But if you are unsure or unable to speak to a GP quickly, we will always try and fit you in for an urgent appointment and can often have an initial phone conversation if you need reassurance.

If you have severe symptoms including but not limited to:

# Difficulties controlling your bladder or bowel.

# Vomiting or severe abdominal pain.

# Signs of a heart attack - pain, a tight band, heavy weight or squeezing in the centre of your chest or pain into your jaw or neck.

# Signs of a stroke - face drooping on one side, can't hold both arms up, difficulty speaking, or weakness or numbness on one side of your body.

# Severe difficulty breathing - not being able to get words out, choking or lips turning blue.

Then yes, you need to speak to a GP or get to A&E.

If you have really severe, debilitating joint or muscle pain, you might also find it useful to speak to a GP for some effective pain relief. Which will also enable us to help you more effectively.

Pain relief might be all a GP can offer you. Which is where we can help.

And even if you have symptoms like redness or swelling, we can still help you with a diagnosis and treatment plan and write notes for you to take to your GP if we feel you need further investigation.

Just ask if you're unsure!
