Plymouth Veterans and Family Hub

Plymouth Veterans and Family Hub Supporting veterans in Plymouth and the surrounding area. The hub is run by veterans and their families Caring can be vary isolating.

Plymouth Veterans and Family Hub started in October 2019 and is part of the long-established organisation, Improving Lives Plymouth. The hub has a designated caseworker who provides information and advice to veterans and their families, makes assessments of need, develops support plans with clients and assists them to claim any benefits they are entitled to. The caseworker also works with partner organisations to deliver the required support. The hub’s Caring for Carers Coordinator supports carers by providing carers assessments and reviews, practical support and helps carers to cope and take care of themselves. The Veterans Carers Support Group meets on the first Thursday of every month and provides emotional support, a chance to talk to other people who understand the pressures of being a carer and time away from their caring roles. Plymouth Veterans and Family Hub provides an array of social activity from Friday morning Brew and Banters to regular therapeutic art sessions, mindfulness, baking, bingo, craft and water sports sessions to name just a few. Where possible we also try to run a range of other activities and day trips throughout the year. Details of social events are published regularly on this page and our weekly newsletter. The Hub has an outstanding working relationship with a range of partner organisations, agencies and charities in which we are able to refer into and work collaboratively with to ensure that you are getting the help, advice and support that you need. Plymouth Veterans and Family hub is supported by:

Thank you Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity 🇬🇧❤️

A huge thank you to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) for helping us bring together 62 Veterans and family members for a meaningful Service of Remembrance on Plymouth Hoe.

It was a truly special day of reflection, connection, and shared memories, followed by a lovely two-course meal at the Copthorne Hotel Plymouth where stories and smiles were shared all around.

Your support made it all possible, and we’re so grateful for the difference you make in our veterans’ lives every day. 🌹💙

Our wonderful Unpaid Carers Group came together today for a heart-warming afternoon of crafting poppies and enjoying afternoon tea ☕🌺

It was a lovely afternoon filled with laughter, creativity, and connection — and great fun was had by all!

A huge thank you to Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust for supporting this activity. Opportunities like this are so important, giving our unpaid carers the chance to relax, socialise, and look after their own wellbeing ❤️

Over the past few months, our Men’s Shed Veterans group has been hard at work transforming recycled plastic bottles into beautiful red poppies.

Through teamwork and creativity, members carefully cut, shaped, and spray-painted the bottles, giving them new life as striking symbols of remembrance.

At last week’s Men’s Shed session, the group completed the final step, attaching the poppies with cable ties to the columns outside Ernest English House. The result is a breathtaking poppy archway, now welcoming everyone who visits or passes by.

We hope this display serves as a poignant reminder of Remembrance Day and a heartfelt tribute to all who have served.

A big thank you to everyone who donated plastic bottles and to all who helped bring this meaningful project to life.
