Why Yoga?
Oh, I could list a dozen or more benefits that yoga brought into my life!
I've always been active, played volleyball for many years, have been a gym goer for years, and I enjoy an occasional jog every so often. But it's yoga which brought it all together.
Yoga helped me get to know my body. What it can and cannot do. It helped me show where my body is open and flexible and where it's tense and anatomically limited. No other physical activity has done this.
We are taught to break our limits, the 'no pain no gain' motto is fed in all sorts of training. Which often results in comparison, injury and additional stress on our body.
In the everyday busy life, we often run away from stillness, the quiet and the listening to our body sensations. And even though it's great to sometimes let it out on a kettlebell or barbell, when yoga is practiced on a regular basis it helps to balance it all out.
The strong muscle needs stretching, to become more flexible and injury proof. And when we let go of ego, that inner voice that pushes us to the limits, yoga asana can do so much to help with overall mobility and fitness levels.
It can also help with mental health, as we learn how to breathe in full awareness, we invite more mindfulness and gratitude. Cognitive function and resilience.
While yoga feels boring, static & to easy to some.Once you step on the mat, and try to do pose after pose one soon finds out that our fitness level can be tested.
The spiritual side of it, is also important. However saying that, yoga doesn't need to involve any religion or philosophy, if you don't want it to. However it's beautiful if you get to know the roots of yoga, and what it has been years ago, and what it is nowadays. Yoga evolved over the years and some yoga nowadays, is all about fancy poses, beautiful outfit and an expensive mat. However these things are related to ego, which separates you from self, causing attachment and ultimately suffering.
Finally we all loose mobility as we age & yoga helps to mantain a good range of motion, and it can offer wide range of modifications for all. Increasing longevity.
So I dare you to try YOGA and improve your life 💗
