🌲 The Sacred Tradition of the Yule Log

A Ritual of Light, Renewal & Silent Power

At the heart of the Winter Solstice, when the night is at its longest and the world seems wrapped in stillness, the ancient festival of Yule is born. It marks the turning of the Wheel of the Year — the sacred moment when darkness reaches its peak and the Light is reborn once more.

Among the oldest and most powerful symbols of Yule stands the Yule Log.

A simple piece of wood — and yet, a vessel of fire, memory, protection, and rebirth.

🔥 The Ancient Meaning of the Yule Log

In old Pagan, Nordic and Celtic traditions, the Yule Log was far more than decoration. It was a living ritual object, chosen with care and reverence. Oak for strength and wisdom. Birch for new beginnings. Pine for endurance and eternal life.

The log was decorated with:
• Evergreens for immortality
• Red berries for life force
• Ribbons and symbols of abundance
• Dried herbs for protection and blessing

On the night of the Solstice, the log was lit from the last flame of the previous year. It burned for twelve sacred nights, blessing the home, the land and the spirits of the family. Its ashes were kept as a protective charm, and a piece was saved to ignite the next year’s fire — ensuring the eternal continuity of the Light.

The Yule Log represented:
• The rebirth of the Sun
• The victory of Light over Darkness
• The promise that life always returns, even from the deepest shadow

How balanced are you - really?

🌕 Full Moon in Aries — with the Sun in Libra
When we have a Full Moon, the Moon and Sun sit opposite each other. This time, the Moon is in Aries and the Sun is in Libra. Together they shine a spotlight on the balance between being true to yourself and keeping harmony with others.

This Full Moon asks us to notice:

Where do I need to be more considerate (Libra)?
It’s not about choosing one side. The wisdom of this Full Moon is learning to hold both — to be strong in yourself and kind in your connections.

Why can a Full Moon affect us?

Food for thought ahead of the Aries Full Moon!

The Moon controls the tides, and because our bodies are mostly water, many believe we feel those same “pulls” internally.
The Full Moon is when the Moon’s light and energy are at their peak.
Symbolically, a Full Moon lights things up. It can reveal truths, emotions, or situations that were hidden. That’s why many people feel more emotionally intense, restless, or “lit up” at this time.

Spiritually, Full Moons mark a culmination — endings, letting go, and completing cycles. We often feel drawn to release what no longer serves us.

Some studies show that sleep patterns, hormone cycles, and even moods shift around the Full Moon, suggesting our biology is more connected to lunar rhythms than we realise.

Common experiences at a Full Moon
Heightened emotions — joy, anger, sadness, passion can all rise to the surface.
Restlessness or trouble sleeping.
Greater creativity or bursts of inspiration.
A sense of things “coming to a head” in life — decisions, conversations, or endings.
Increased sensitivity and awareness.
