Poles APart AP - Alternative Education Provision

Poles APart AP - Alternative Education Provision Poles APart AP is an Alternative Education Provision based in Devon and Cornwall. We are built on passion and genuine care for the students we work with.

We cater for ages 4-18 and have centres in Plymouth, Exeter, Bodmin and Tiverton. Poles APart AP is an alternative provision with a difference and we are proud to be working with young people aged 4-18 across Devon and Cornwall. As a provision and a staff team, we genuinely love what we do and appreciate how rewarding it is to know we are changing the lives of the young people in our care. We aim to allow students to reset, reflect, and re-engage, thereby giving them the confidence to positively change their pathway, which in turn supports them in leading happy and successful lives.

Last week, our Central students visited the Eden Project and our Tiverton students explored Exeter Museum. Two incredible local gems, and two fantastic experiences for our young people.

Getting out into the community, exploring, and engaging with the world is every bit as valuable as time in the classroom. This is what learning is all about. ❤️🌍

📚 We are proud library advocates! Our students visit their local libraries not just to borrow books, but to work quietly, play chess, and find a space that feels calm and welcoming. 🏛️♟️

Libraries are an underrated resource for our young people. It’s always worth checking out your local one to see what they have to offer 🤎

Say hello to the newest members of our Tiverton base! Our stick insects have arrived and they've already been making friends! 👀

Caring for animals teaches our students responsibility, empathy, patience, and even some brilliant science along the way.

We have a feeling these little ones are going to be very popular. Watch this space! 🌿❤️

At first glance, you might see a board game and some colouring.

What we see? Fine motor development, improved concentration, emotional regulation, and children learning to take turns and communicate with each other. 🎲🖍️

Fishing is a valuable way to support wellbeing while building positive relationships. It offers a calm, outdoor environment where students can step away from the usual routine and engage at their own pace. 🎣

It can help with patience, focus and confidence, and it’s often where we see some of the best conversations happen too. 🐟🗣️

We’ve made a start on our Stlukesguidinglights lighthouse! 🌟

Staff and students have begun bringing the design to life, and it’s great to see the project underway.

Students will also be taking on their own sponsored activity (forms coming home this week) which gives a chance for everyone to get involved and support a really meaningful cause.

More updates to come as the lighthouse takes shape 💛

We have set up a GoFundMe page to support our fundraising efforts https://gofund.me/d80973643.

We are very lucky that we have such beautiful locations on our doorstep to explore and enjoy.

Our Central students spent some time focusing on goal setting.

Taking a step back to think about what they want to achieve, both in and out of the classroom, is an important part of building confidence and motivation. It was great to see students engaging with the process and thinking about their next steps.

A look back at last week’s Wild Minds sessions 🌿

Students got out and about across the region from survival skills Ayrmer Cove and the North Devon coast, to exploring Stover Park, rockpooling in Looe and a trip into Plymouth for Exeter students. There was even an impromptu ferry trip to Mount Edgcumbe, where one student faced a real fear and took it in their stride.

A busy week full of fresh air, new experiences and moments that really matter. 💛

Look at these yummy dishes from last week! A delicious looking chocolate cake at Beacon Primary, enjoyed during a picnic at the park! And a lunch prepared by our Exeter students. 🍰🌮

It’s always great to see students getting stuck in and enjoying what they’ve made 😍

For many of our students, Forest School is the highlight of their week and it’s easy to see why!

The standout moment this week was picking fresh wild garlic and turning it into garlic flatbread 🫓🧄

We can’t wait to see what next week brings! 🤎

Learning doesn’t always mean putting pen to paper or being in a classroom…

This week, our Central students have met their objectives in all sorts of ways. Some took on a 6km walk around Plymouth and the Barbican, another did the same out in the woods, while others stayed on site cooking fajitas for everyone or getting stuck into washing cars. 🚙🚶
