But the work is paying off! Awesome results after our 4 week review and after saying 'I can't complete another round' during the last part of today's workout, she then went on to complete another round! 😂

One of the first things people do when they try to eat healthier is take away a lot of the foods they enjoy. If this is you, try this:

Add, don't swap!

I get really wound up when some super slim, trim person says 'I used to eat lots of biscuits, but I just swapped them for carrot sticks!'. No. That is no fun and soooo unrealistic!

If I asked people to switch out their favourite treat for an apple, they are going to feel so unsatisfied and fed up, and won't stick with their healthier eating plan for very long. Instead of making these crazy swaps, try adding things in first!

So, if you normally have a daily cuppa with a side of a few biscuits, crack on, but try to add a piece of fruit too. 🍎🍌 That way you're getting more vitamins and minerals, more volume from your snack (so you'll feel more satisfied), and fruit is generally a low calorie option so it won't result in weight gain.

Same goes with mealtimes. Forget courgetti-spaghetti (unless you love it, then you do you!). Instead, just cook up some additional veggies on the side! 🥦🥕 You can eat big portions of vegetables; it'll help you feel fuller, they are packed full of nutrients and again, low enough in calories that adding them to your meals won't cause fat gain.

If you're just starting out, give it a try! See what healthier foods you enjoy without sacrificing your normal treats too.

🤩 Motivation Monday! 🤩

Goal setting should be a fundamental activity you do each week to help you keep moving in the right direction! If you feel like you're not making much progress, make sure you're setting goals that have a purpose.

Ideas:

Goal One: Do one extra workout than last week

Goal Two: Eat a piece of fruit as well as your regular afternoon biscuit!

Goal Three: Every hour at work, stand up and do 10 bodyweight squats

Purpose:

Goal One: You will be progressively increasing your training load which will increase your overall fitness

Goal Two: You will eat more vitamins and minerals during the day without sacrificing a tasty treat!

Goal Three: You will improve the wellbeing of your body by breaking up long sedentary periods with short bursts of activity

The most important thing? Don't give up! Slow progress is frustrating but is actually the best kind! It means you're making small but sustainable changes to your lifestyle that will last for years, not just the weeks you are doing a diet or fitness programme.

Break those goals down!

I’m sure you know that setting goals is a great way to give you a motivation boost right at the start of your health journey, but what about a few weeks in? Let’s take setting a goal of running a sub-30 minute 5k as an example. Right now you may run a 40 minute 5k, so knocking over 10 minutes off your time seems like a big challenge. You might start off going out and running as fast as you can, every other day, then a week later do a timed 5k and see barely any difference. It can be demotivating.

Instead, set small goals on your way to the ultimate goal, and work out a plan for how you’re going to achieve them. So you might say, in one month I’d like to run a 38:30 5k. To do that, I will do 2 easy pace runs, one speed session and one strength workout per week, plus a yoga class.

Plan your workouts progressively, then schedule a timed 5k at the end of the month. Completing your plan each week becomes a mini goal, as well as hitting your first target of 38:30. It becomes much more motivating to have frequent small successes than to constantly feel like you’re far from your overall goal!

❄️ Winter Motivation - Don't focus solely on weight loss! ❄️

Yes, exercise is a great way to lose weight, but there are so many other health benefits you will feel from maintaining a consistent workout routine.

Try to set some goals that aren’t weight focused, like deadlifting your bodyweight, doing a pull up, completing a charity run or swim event, the options are endless! You might even want to make your goal to be doing activity consistently for 5 days a week.

The number on the scale fluctuates regularly, so yes, have weight loss goals if they’re important to you, but round it out with some non-weight focused goals too.
