A POSTPARTUM PLAN!
Have you made one? Do you know what one is?!
It sounds really simple but a lot of the time we spend the whole of pregnancy buying baby goodies and thinking about what labour will be like and then all of a sudden baby is here and it's all errrrr what now ๐ฅด
There are plenty of things to think about before you give birth and talking about them now can avoid any unwanted surprises /rows in those early days:
1. Visitors! Honestly the number of uninvited guests that just turn up or 'pop in' when you've got a newborn is mental. Everyone means well but it can be quite overwhelming, especially when you're only just figuring out how to keep a tiny human alive.
Think about who your key people are, who can wait, who isn't welcome, and how long you can handle people being with you.
This might change once baby is born but it's good to agree some boundaries with your partner so you both know what the general game plan so you can politely kick people out. I always think a 1 hour rule is a good place to start.
2. Chores! I am the chef in our house, so it was quite a shock for my husband that once our daughter arrived I needed him to feed us 3 times a day the first few weeks while I recovered and got my head round breastfeeding (which seemed to involve me being glued to the sofa and being completely topless ๐๐คฆ๐ฝโโ๏ธ)
Who is going to run the hoover round, cook dinner, do you have pets that will need walking? A lot of things can wait but basic needs have to be accounted for to help you recover ๐ค
3. Support! Is your mum planning on moving in the minute you give birth for a month? This might be quite a shock for your partner...and even you! ๐ Or maybe you're expecting your mum to be coming in everyday to help but she's planning on carrying on as normal with her own things. Have a chat pre baby to save any surprises and anyone being offended.
4. Feeding! However you are planning to feed your baby, work out both your roles in this. I think my husband thought that because I was breastfeeding he'd just be sleeping all night - how wrong he was ๐... CONTINUED IN COMMENTS...
