Placenta Pill Review!

I donโ€™t make enough time to share all the amazing feedback I get from mums who have encapsulated their placenta but when I got this today, I just had to post it.

This is a second time mum who didnโ€™t encapsulate first time round but this time is she did and is experiencing so many benefits from doing so.

I love to hear it ๐ŸคŽ๐ŸคŽ Share your comments below about your own experiences in doing it, I love to hear! ๐ŸคŽ

REMEMBER TO WEE!

This sounds totally basic, especially given that when you're pregnant all you seem to do is run for a wee! BUT in labour we often forget to do it.

We are feeling so many other sensations when in labour that the 'need to wee' feeling often gets missed and we don't even notice. Go figure.

As much as it's important to stay hydrated when we are in labour it's also important to empty our bladder:

๐Ÿ˜– Contractions / surges on a full bladder are less comfortable and can feel more intense

๐ŸŽˆYour bladder, when full, is in the way of baby's exit! If you imagine your bladder is a balloon, when it fills up it can make it harder for baby to make their way out. By emptying it, it can 'deflate' and make enough room for baby to come down.

Get your birth partner to remind you to wee every hour, even if you don't feel like you need it. It's a bit like having a toddler and asking them every time you go anywhere to 'just have a try' ๐Ÿ˜‚

It's something super simple that can help make labour more straightforward and avoid the need for other interventions - REMEMBER TO WEE!

PLACENTA PILLS ARE COMPLETELY SAFE TO CONSUME.

ITS A FOOD.

I'm just going to leave this one here ๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿผ

Okay so it's not everyone's idea of a death row meal... BUT....We are regulated by the FSA (Food Standard Agency) because it is classed as a food.

IT IS COMPLETELY SAFE TO CONSUME.

There are likely more dangerous things in your microwave meal than your placenta...

Your placenta is full of hormones, stem cells, nutrients in iron. It gives your body back everything it lost during birth birth and means it can properly heal and recover whilst you feel amazing.

Your capsules have absolutely no taste and you can even opt to have them a pretty pink colour rather than clear if you're that way inclined.

Investing in your postpartum recovery is SO worth it.

A ยฃ50 deposit secures your booking. I provide you with absolutely everything you need to encapsulate so you don't need to worry about it!

DM me for more info, I'm always happy to discuss placentas ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸคŽ

WHAT DO WE ROUTINELY DO TO WOMEN IN LABOUR THAT WE WOULD NEVER DO TO ANOTHER MAMMAL?

I was inspired by a private midwife who works locally to me to write this post after seeing her do similar and it really got me thinking.

Why is it that we seem to be at the bottom of the food chain (excuse the pun) for birthing rights when you look around at other mammals?

Imagine doing any of these to this lioness when she was labouring....

๐ŸŒŸ Snapping on our rubber gloves and sticking a couple of fingers in her lady parts to do a Vaginal Examination to see how dilated she is ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ I dare you...let's wait and see how she responds ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐ŸŒŸ Gathering a crowd of strangers to get up in her face and chant 'PUSH!' as baby is moving down her birth canal. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐ŸŒŸ Well...she's a couple of days over when we GUESSED she might be ready to give birth - better book her in for an induction and hook her up for continuous monitoring... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Now I'm obviously saying these a little tongue in cheek but they are absolutely true. We would be pretty shocked, if not a bit horrified if we did this to her, so WHY is it just accepted that it's fine to do it to us women when WE are in labour.

Imagine telling her that we knew far better how to deliver her baby than she does ๐Ÿคฏ just no.

Have you got any examples of other things that are done to us as standard as labouring women that this lioness certainly wouldn't stand for... tell me below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

A POSTPARTUM PLAN!

Have you made one? Do you know what one is?!

It sounds really simple but a lot of the time we spend the whole of pregnancy buying baby goodies and thinking about what labour will be like and then all of a sudden baby is here and it's all errrrr what now ๐Ÿฅด

There are plenty of things to think about before you give birth and talking about them now can avoid any unwanted surprises /rows in those early days:

1. Visitors! Honestly the number of uninvited guests that just turn up or 'pop in' when you've got a newborn is mental. Everyone means well but it can be quite overwhelming, especially when you're only just figuring out how to keep a tiny human alive.

Think about who your key people are, who can wait, who isn't welcome, and how long you can handle people being with you.

This might change once baby is born but it's good to agree some boundaries with your partner so you both know what the general game plan so you can politely kick people out. I always think a 1 hour rule is a good place to start.

2. Chores! I am the chef in our house, so it was quite a shock for my husband that once our daughter arrived I needed him to feed us 3 times a day the first few weeks while I recovered and got my head round breastfeeding (which seemed to involve me being glued to the sofa and being completely topless ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ)

Who is going to run the hoover round, cook dinner, do you have pets that will need walking? A lot of things can wait but basic needs have to be accounted for to help you recover ๐ŸคŽ

3. Support! Is your mum planning on moving in the minute you give birth for a month? This might be quite a shock for your partner...and even you! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Or maybe you're expecting your mum to be coming in everyday to help but she's planning on carrying on as normal with her own things. Have a chat pre baby to save any surprises and anyone being offended.

4. Feeding! However you are planning to feed your baby, work out both your roles in this. I think my husband thought that because I was breastfeeding he'd just be sleeping all night - how wrong he was ๐Ÿ˜‚... CONTINUED IN COMMENTS...

WHAT DO ALL THESE GORGEOUS WOMEN HAVE IN COMMON?

They all consumed their placenta after birth!

They all knew the benefits they could gain from consuming their placenta:

๐ŸŒŸ Increased energy
๐ŸŒŸBalanced hormones
๐ŸŒŸAvoiding baby blues and PND
๐ŸŒŸReduction in postpartum bleeding
๐ŸŒŸUterus shrinking back to size quicker
๐ŸŒŸHelping with weight loss
๐ŸŒŸQuicker recovery

There are plenty of ways to consume your placenta. Pills are the most popular but there are so many options ๐ŸคŽ

When you book in for placenta remedies I provide you with everything you need from start to finish so you don't need to worry about anything.

I did this with both my children and it would be the first thing I booked in for again if I had another baby.

POSITIVE BIRTH AFFIRMATIONS

I get a lot of questions about 'positive birth affirmations' and what they are.

I think sometimes people think it's a heap of c**p because they can be a bit abstract or come across a bit earth mother (which btw there's nothing wrong with, I'm a total earth mother at heart lol).

But all they are doing is helping to reframe your outlook on labour and birth and making you feel more positive and confident about it - maybe even looking forward to it ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

If you've seen that episode of friends where is it Joey or Chandler ?? It escapes me. Anyway, he's walking round with a towel on his head saying 'I'm a strong confident woman' because that tape has been playing while he's been sleeping ๐Ÿ˜‚well, it's a lot like that!

So for anyone who isn't down for the 'usual' affirmations - here is my favourite.

Wine / G&T, you name it, I was looking forward to it!

CORD KEEPSAKES & BABY CASTINGS

A couple of months ago I had the honour of encapsulating Jo at placenta ๐ŸคŽ

When I returned her capsules with this cord keepsake she had the amazing idea to put it together with the castings she was doing for her sons hands and feet.

We have now teamed up and are offering this to clients. It really is a truly unique keepsake and the first of its kind (not that I'm bias).

have lots of different framing options to suit and I can style your cord keepsake to match.

I can do different colours and even different shapes / baby's initial. If your cord is long enough I can even get the word 'love' out of it ๐ŸคŽ

The cord keepsake is normally a ยฃ35 add on to your pills but if you book in with Jo for your casting too it is just ยฃ5.

If you don't encapsulate your placenta but want the keepsake then this would normally be ยฃ75 but is only ยฃ50 when booking in with Jo too.

I actually love this idea. Almost enough to consider a third... but not quite ๐Ÿ˜‚

If you want any more info then drop me a DM or head over to to see what else Jo has up her sleeve.

WANT TO MINIMISE YOUR RISK OF TEARING IN BIRTH?

Who doesn't right ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Unfortunately having a small tear is quite common in labour, especially for first time mums.

BUT there is nothing to be scared of AND, there are loads of things you can do to help reduce the risk of tearing in birth but these are my top 3!

1. UFO - no, not alien related. Birth slang for get off your back and get Upright, Forward and Open. This helps spread the distribution of the pressure on your vaginal opening when baby is being born and not put all of it on your perineum!

2. Birth in water - whatever you have access to but a birth pool is amazing for MANY more reasons than just helping with tearing (a whole other post in itself). If you don't have access to water or you don't fancy the idea of being in warm water then you can ask your midwife or birth partner to apply a warm compress to your perineum as baby's head is crowning ๐Ÿ‘Œ

3. Perineal massage! Let's be honest, nobody's idea of a great night in BUT it's super effective and certainly better than tearing if effective ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป You don't need to make a big deal of it, just do it when you're relaxed and don't put anything too 'synthetic' down there - think something you'd be alright eating then you won't do any damage.

For a step by step on how to do it you can just look it up on Google or YouTube or if you are on one of my Hypnobirthing courses you get full instructions on the most effective way to do it ๐ŸคŽ

We talk about these and plenty more in a lot more detail on the course.

Did you practice perineal massage when you were pregnant, did it help? Let me know below ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ
