🦶 What Is a Verruca?
(Also known as a plantar wart)
A verruca is a common viral skin infection that appears on the sole of the foot. It’s caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which infects the outer layer of skin.
👣 What Does It Look Like?
* A small, rough growth on the bottom of the foot
* May have tiny black dots (these are small blood vessels)
* Sometimes painful when walking or standing
* Often surrounded by hard skin or callus
Verrucae can appear singly or in clusters (known as mosaic verrucae).
💊 Do Verrucae Go Away on Their Own?
Some verrucae resolve naturally as your immune system fights off the virus, but this can take months or even years. If a verruca is painful, spreading, or persistent, professional treatment can help.
