Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives.
A main symptom of depression is to dwell on previous experience, while anxiety is to excessively worry about what is to come.
For the non-anxious person, those feelings of anxiety over stressful situations, like a job interview, come and go. However, a person with anxiety is permanently in that uncomfortable state, the sense of panic or doom remains in tact even after stressful event has passed.
Because the anxious brain remains in a state of high alert, it’s looking out for the next thing to worry about, leading to overthinking and negative forecasting.
This constant cycle becomes exhausting, and individuals may even develop physical symptoms (such as insomnia, increased heart rate and rapid breathing).
This is referred to as ‘Negative Forecasting’ which is a common theme with anxiety.

Panic attacks and phobic responses are frightening episodes where a person is overwhelmed by fear, stress or anxiety. Sufferers experience a variety of symptoms. These can include:
- Shortness of breath
- Pounding heart
- Mind going blank
- Stomach churning
- Trembling or shaking
- Inability to speak
Episodes can be triggered by repeated experiences or, in the case of panic attacks, can occur out of the blue. Sufferers live with the fear of it happening again.

Have you ever wondered what techniques I use in my sessions?
Here’s a handful of them:
➡Goal clarification – My client will be invited to envision a future without the problem with which they present. With specialised coaching and positive questioning, this vision can become much clearer as we go through the process.
➡Illuminating the exception – I guide my client to a point in their life where there is an exception to the problem. The exception is where things worked well, despite the problem. Within the exception, and by using specialised coaching, an approach for the solution may be forged.
➡The ‘miracle question’ – This question allows my client to begin taking small steps to find a solution to a problem.
➡Experiment invitation – I guide my client into solution orientation by inviting them to build on what is already working. This helps my client focus on the positive. In positive psychology, this will give the participant a chance to broaden their mind and build from that orientation.
➡Consultation breaks – Throughout a session, I will ask my client to reflect on what has been learned so far. This allows me to tailor the rest of the session to ensure my client experiences the biggest impact.

In practice, it assesses your present condition and sets future desirable goals instead of looking back into your past traumas.
This strategy makes Solution Focused Hypnotherapy a dynamic approach compared to other types of therapies. Moreover, it is very well structured, systematic, and practical.

A phobia is an overwhelming and debilitating fear of something specific and is usually triggered by an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of danger about a situation, object or other.
To avoid a phobia worsening, the person suffering may organise their lives around escaping the thing that’s causing anxiety. This can make life pretty tough!
The good news is, it doesn't have to be this way.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be used as a method to help a person overcome a phobia and has been known to work very effectively.

Anxiety can really mess with our daily routines; it can take over the mind and the body, resulting in us wanting to do very little or nothing at all.
When anxiety hits like this, it’s important to take some time out to recover. You need to let yourself off the hook and forgive yourself; punishing yourself further for allowing things to escalate can push you straight back into another anxiety attack, and before you know it, you're back where you were.
The main thing you need to understand is that you are not alone, and there is help out there.

Everyone has their own way of coping with the anxiety that life can sometimes cause. The key is to stay in a mindset where you’re thinking logically. However, with severe anxiety, this isn’t always possible.
For example, you may have had an anxiety attack, which is not that easy to get out of simply by thinking logically, the illogical takes over. However, when you’ve calmed down, you can start to think more clearly, and it’s at this point that you can start to consider what you can do to prevent things from getting out of control again.
There are lots of coping mechanisms out there and it can sometimes feel overwhelming trying to figure out which is the right one for you.
When you’re considering your options, it is worth noting that I can help you deal with, and perhaps even eliminate, severe anxiety from your life using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy techniques.
