The Importance of Respecting Professionals in the Beauty and Aesthetic Industry
The language we use in this field truly matters. Referring to someone as a beautician can sound dismissive, especially when that person is, in fact, a qualified Aesthetic Practitioner holding Level 4, 5 or 7 qualifications, with decades of experience and hundreds of clients. You cannot fairly describe a practitioner with 30 years in aesthetics and advanced Botox certification in the same way you would a 16-year-old just starting a Level 1 beauty course and learning basic make-up.
Traditionally, a beautician provides entry-level treatments such as make-up or general skincare. Today’s professionals, however, often work at a far higher level, specialising in advanced skin procedures, aesthetic injectables, laser and IPL, or semi-permanent make-up. Their expertise is built on significant education, assessment, and professional development.
Using an outdated title for such practitioners undermines both their qualifications and their reputation. The correct term, Aesthetic Practitioner, reflects their level of skill, responsibility, and professionalism.
Respectful language acknowledges the dedication and standards within our field. By recognising practitioners for what they truly are, we help strengthen the credibility and standing of the entire aesthetics profession.
