💚 Meet the Pontardawe Pharmacy Team

This week we’re celebrating the amazing team that keeps Pontardawe Pharmacy running — friendly faces, hard workers, and the true heartbeat of our community.

💊 Colette – everyone knows Col! Always a friendly face on the counter who goes above and beyond for every patient. Sidekick to…
💊 Mair – our other friendly counter star, always ready to help anyone and everyone.
💊 Dawn – our technology queen! Labels to perfection and makes sure our collection machine works like clockwork.
💊 Ger – our delivery fairy, making sure every parcel arrives safe, sound and on time. She's also our queen of ear microsuction!
💊 Maggs – tray master extraordinaire! Keeps our tray patients happy and runs the show seamlessly.
💊 Maria – Maggs’ right-hand woman in the tray room, making sure everything’s spot on.
💊 Kath – the fastest dispenser there ever was — accurate, efficient and amazing.
💊 Katie – our ACT in training and already flying through her checks with confidence.
💊 Lynne – our ACT top dog! Nothing gets past her, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
💊 Adrian & Dai – our delivery dream team — keeping everything moving and everyone smiling. Adrian’s our resident comedian too!

💙 A Very Special Introduction – Huw Rees

To end our Meet Your Local Pharmacist series, it’s only right that we introduce the man who made it all possible.

The foundation, the vision, and the heart of Rees Pharmacy Group all began with Huw Rees — the founder of Penclawdd Pharmacy, and the reason our pharmacies stand so firmly in the communities we serve today.

Married to Diane, proud dad to Thomas and Jonathan, and now Pa to five wonderful grandchildren, Huw’s dedication and values are the foundation on which everything we do is built.

Since opening Penclawdd Pharmacy in 1983, Huw has been driven by a simple but powerful vision — to make healthcare local, accessible, and personal for everyone in the community. Through hard work, sheer determination, and an unwavering belief in community care, Huw made the pharmacy not just a place to collect prescriptions, but the true heart of the village.

Away from work, Huw is happiest spending time with his dog Bryn on long coastal walks, or enjoying a good cricket match — passions that perfectly reflect his calm, thoughtful, and grounded nature.

Even now, Huw continues to inspire and support the next generation, encouraging Jonathan and Stacey as they carry forward his vision through Pontardawe and Scurlage Pharmacies.

Everything we do today stands on the strong foundation Huw created — and we couldn’t be prouder to continue his legacy. 💙

💙 Meet Your Local Pharmacist – Lowis Hopkins

I studied Pharmacy at Keele University and completed my pre-registration year at Penclawdd Pharmacy — right in the middle of a pandemic and a full pharmacy refit! It was definitely a chaotic year, but one that taught me so much and made me fall in love with community pharmacy even more.

That experience led me to join the Pontardawe team, where I’ve loved getting to know our patients and community ever since. I’m now an Independent Prescriber, which means I can support patients even more directly with personalised treatment and advice.

I’m especially passionate about women’s health, and I love helping patients feel confident, informed, and empowered when it comes to managing their wellbeing.

Outside of work, I enjoy swimming, going to the gym, and spending time with friends — I think finding a good balance between health and happiness is so important!

Whether you need advice, reassurance, or just a friendly chat, I’m always happy to help — so please don’t hesitate to pop in and say hello. 💙

💙 Meet Your Local Pharmacist – Tom Davies

I first joined Penclawdd Pharmacy at the start of the pandemic to lend a hand… and I’ve never really left!

I studied Pharmacy at Cardiff University (2020–2024), and during that time I worked at Penclawdd pharmacy alongside my studies. After graduating, I completed my foundation training year across Treboeth Pharmacy, Morriston Hospital, and Pontarddulais GP Surgery — experiences that gave me a great mix of community, hospital, and primary care practice.

When Cam first started as Saturday staff, I like to say I taught him everything he knows 😉 — and it’s been brilliant to now work alongside him as fellow pharmacists.

As a pharmacist, I’m passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles and building trusting relationships with our local community. I believe pharmacy should feel like the first stop for friendly, reliable healthcare advice — somewhere people feel comfortable asking questions.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me playing rugby, at the gym, or relaxing at a concert or the cinema. Balance is important — and staying active helps me bring that same energy into my work every day.

I’m always here to help with medicine-related questions — or just for a friendly chat. See you soon! 💙

💙 Meet Your Local Pharmacist – Cameron Clayfield

I completed my MPharm at Cardiff University, working at Penclawdd Pharmacy on Saturdays and during university breaks — so you could say I’ve grown up as part of the Rees Pharmacy family!

After completing my foundation year in Bristol, I came back to work across our three branches, and I’ve loved being part of the team ever since. Every day brings something new — and I’m passionate about helping patients through Common Ailment Services (CAS) and Travel Vaccinations, keeping care local and accessible for everyone.

I’m also currently studying for my Independent Prescribing qualification, building on my clinical skills to offer even more for our patients and community.

Outside of work, I’m usually found playing rugby, training for triathlons, or spending time with friends — staying active helps me bring that same energy and enthusiasm into the pharmacy.

We’re always here to help and answer any questions, so don’t hesitate to reach out anytime — that’s what community pharmacy is all about. 💙

💙 Meet Your Local Pharmacist – Stacey Rees

I’m married to Jonathan and a proud mum of three. I graduated from Cardiff University with my MPharm in 2011, and I’ve always worked within independent community pharmacy — it’s where I feel most at home.

I’m an Independent Prescriber and aesthetician, passionate about keeping healthcare local, accessible, and personal. You’ll find me working across our Penclawdd and Scurlage pharmacies, as well as running Seaview Aesthetics, where I combine clinical expertise with a focus on confidence, wellbeing, and self-love.

When I’m not in work, I’m usually making sure three kids are where they need to be, our two dogs have had their walks, or I’m researching women’s health and personal wellbeing — often with a coffee in hand! I love pharmacy, but I also believe in meditation, yoga, and balance — because feeling healthy isn’t just about medicine, it’s about mindset too.

I believe that everyone deserves to be treated equally in healthcare — everyone should be heard, supported, and advocated for, and sometimes all a person really needs is for someone to listen.

To me, pharmacy and self-care belong side by side — true health comes from caring for both mind and body. I’m especially passionate about women’s health and empowerment, helping patients feel confident and understood through every stage of life.

My goal has always been to show that pharmacy can evolve — that it can be both clinical and compassionate, combining modern healthcare with a human touch. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created at Rees Pharmacy Group, and of the role our pharmacies play at the heart of our communities. 💙

💙 Meet Your Local Pharmacist – Jonathan Rees

I’m married to Stacey and a proud dad to three — one of whom keeps me especially busy as a keen footballer and rugby player! When I’m not in the pharmacy, you’ll usually find me chauffeuring him to his team matches (which we’re proud to sponsor here at Rees Pharmacy Group 🏉⚽).

I graduated from Cardiff University in 2011 with my MPharm and began my career in hospital pharmacy before moving into community practice. Over the years, I’ve also worked with organisations such as Community Pharmacy Wales (CPW) and the National Pharmacy Association (NPA), gaining valuable experience in pharmacy regulation and practice.

In 2020, I joined the family business, working alongside my dad, Huw — the man who started it all — and became the first Independent Prescriber within the company.

An interesting fact — I was honoured to be the community pharmacist called to give evidence at the UK COVID Inquiry, representing the vital role pharmacies played during the pandemic.

I’m passionate about community pharmacy, professional standards, and supporting our teams to deliver the very best care to our patients. It’s a privilege to carry forward the family values of hard work, accessibility, and genuine community care that Rees Pharmacy Group is built on. 💙
