πŸ’™ Protected Learning Time – This Afternoon πŸ’™

This afternoon, our whole team will be coming together for some important protected learning time.

We’ll begin with insight training from FirstLight, helping us better understand how we can recognise and support those affected by domestic abuse.

Later, we’ll be joined by Hearing Loss Cornwall to explore the impact of hearing loss on our patients, families, and communities.

We’re immensely grateful to both organisations for sharing their expertise and giving their time to help us learn and grow. When our team takes time out to learn together, we always return with greater understanding β€” and new ways to improve the care and lives of our patients. πŸ’œ

Please note: the surgery will be closed for routine care this afternoon, but urgent care needs will still be met.

If you need us today, please see the information below.

Thank you for your understanding and support. πŸ’™

πŸ’‰πŸ‚ FLU CLINIC TODAY at our Pool site! πŸ‚πŸ’‰

We’re ready for another big vaccination day β€” with 1,800 flu jabs planned! πŸ‘

If you’ve received an invite but haven’t booked a slot, you can still come along today β€” just drop in any time before 4:15pm... BUT please note: the team will be taking a short break to rest and re-stock from ⏰12:45–1:30pm so please don't arrive then as the doors will be closed.

Our brilliant admin team and nurses were here bright and early this morning getting everything ready pictured enjoying a brief moment of quiet before the doors opened. A huge thank you to all our staff for giving up another Saturday to keep our community healthy β€” following last week’s flu and COVID clinic too. πŸ’ͺπŸ’™

Getting your flu vaccine is one of the best ways to protect yourself and those around you β€” especially if you’re:

πŸ‘΅ aged 65 or over
❀️ living with a long-term health condition
🀰 pregnant
πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈ or a carer

Flu isn’t just a sniffle – it can lead to serious illness, especially in young children. Kids are known as "super spreaders" – they catch and pass on flu easily, often bringing it home to grandparents or younger siblings.

πŸ›‘οΈ The good news? The NHS flu vaccine is free, quick and needle-free (just a nasal spray!)

βœ… For 2 & 3 year olds – give us a call, pop in to book or use the online, Klinik "Nurse team appointments/enquiries" tile and we'll get back to you
βœ… For school-aged children – return the school consent form ASAP

πŸ§’ Protect your child. πŸ‘΅ Protect your family. πŸ’™ Protect Cornwall.

πŸ‘–πŸ’™ Jeans for Genes Day – This Wednesday! πŸ’™πŸ‘–

This Wednesday our practice team will be swapping scrubs and smart wear for denim – all to support Jeans for Genes Day on their 30th year celebration.

Why? πŸ‘‰ Because 1 in 25 children in the UK are affected by a genetic condition. That’s around 30,000 babies and children born each year.

By donning our jeans, we’re helping raise awareness and funds to support children and families living with these conditions – providing vital care, support, and research. 🌟

✨ Our staff will also be making donations through our JustGiving page – and patients are very welcome to contribute too if they wishπŸ™ http://www.justgiving.com/jeansforgenesday30847

So if you see us looking a little more casual than usual – you’ll know it’s for a great cause!

27/08/2025

Today we said a very fond farewell to our fabulous Carrie (pictured right), our Nurse Manager who has been with us for many years, initially as a practice nurse, then subsequently taking on the lead role, helping us continue to grow and support our wonderful nursing team, as well as providing excellent care for patients being a very experienced diabetes and chronic disease nurse.

Carrie is leaving us in order to focus fully on training the county’s future workforce of Nurses Associates, having recently qualified as a teacher too (is there no end to her talents?!).

We are so going to miss her positivity and leadership, but are thrilled that we have Steph Whyte (pictured left) who is going to step into Carrie’s shoes. Steph is also a very experienced nurse - in fact we have had the joy of seeing her expand her skills over the sixteen years she’s been with us (so far!) and we have every confidence the team are left in very safe hands.

Here’s to the next sixteen years Steph πŸ˜€, but first a final heartfelt thank you to Carrie πŸ’• from the partners and staff at C2C.

We are pleased Carrie has already confirmed she won’t be a stranger though, as she’ll keep in touch by popping up to help us with flu clinics before long (more news on those shortly!)

πŸ’™ We’re Proud to Be a Research Active Practice πŸ’™

At our practice, we believe research changes lives. That’s why we take part in a wide range of studies – including those run by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) – to help improve care for patients now and in the future.

We’re excited to share that a study we were involved in has just been published! Over the course of two years 157 patients kindly supported this particular study at our practice, supported by our brilliant practice nurse team.

The study focuses on increasing uptake of cervical screening – a vital test that can prevent cervical cancer.

πŸ“– Read about Laura’s Story and how research like this can make a difference:

A huge thank you to all the patients who take part in studies with us – your involvement helps shape better healthcare for everyone. πŸ’š

πŸ“’ Patients Affected by the Closure of Boots Pharmacy at Pool Health Centre πŸ’Š

Many of you will know that Carn to Coast has been supporting efforts by Naimans (owners of Green Lane Pharmacy) to open a new pharmacy in the space left by Boots.

Patient feedback shows this is sorely needed, but the NHS initially turned down the licence application. Thank you to those who responded to our earlier post below on the topic - this has undoubtedly helped as it’s now going to appeal, to be heard online:

πŸ—“ Thursday 4th September
⏰ From 10am

Healthcare Plus Consulting Ltd, who are helping with the appeal, would like to hear from patients willing to attend the appeal hearing to share their experiences of accessing pharmacy services since Boots closed.

πŸ’¬ If you can take part, please contact:
πŸ“§ Ben Knell – ben@healthcareplusconsulting.co.uk
(USE THE ABOVE EMAIL - PLEASE DO NOT USE THE EMAIL ON OUR ORIGINAL POST OF 22ND MAY BELOW)

If you’re asked to speak at the hearing (there will be a limit on numbers so not everyone who offers to be available will be needed), it will help if you know how to use Microsoft Teams – but don’t worry, Healthcare Plus may be able to help with this.

🫢 Your voice could make a real difference to bringing a pharmacy back to Pool.

We have been asked to share this with our patients by Green Lane Pharmacy, Redruth.

πŸ“’ POOL PHARMACY APPEAL – YOUR SUPPORT IS URGENTLY NEEDED! πŸ’ŠπŸ₯

You may or may not know that for a new pharmacy to replace Boots in Pool, permission must be granted by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) – part of the NHS.

πŸ›‘ Unfortunately, the recent application by Green Lane Pharmacy (Redruth) was rejected due to "no evidence of need." 😞

But here's the good news:
➑️ They’re appealing the decision – and they need YOUR help! πŸ™Œ

βœ‰οΈ Please send a short letter/email of support to:
πŸ“§ (EMAIL NOW REMOVED FROM THIS ORIGINAL POST - IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING THE APPEAL PLEASE SEE OUR MORE RECENT POST OF 12TH AUGUST)

πŸ’¬ Include how the closure of Boots has affected YOU. Have you experienced:
⏳ Long waiting times or queues?
πŸ“¦ Delays in getting prescriptions?
🚫 Lack of in-store services (e.g. sore throat, cough advice)?
πŸ₯ Difficulty after visiting the surgery?
🚢 Difficulties getting there on foot or by 🚌 bus?

πŸ“£ Any real-life examples will help make the case stronger!

πŸ§‘β€βš•οΈ This is not a scam – Chris Naidu, who runs Green Lane Pharmacy, has also shared this appeal on social media. βœ…

πŸ’₯ The more emails sent, the better the chance we have of getting a new pharmacy in Pool! So please, share this with your friends, family & neighbours. πŸ—£οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦

πŸ“¬ Let’s make a difference –
Don’t delay – email today! πŸ™

THANK YOU! ❀️
