Residents Joyce and Tina recently enjoyed a drive to our local Julia's House Charity Shops to look for some hidden treasures!

Joyce tried on a gilet and decided to leave it for someone else to buy but even got in touch with her agricultural side, dressing to impress in farmer attire, even posing with nerf gun and plush bunny.

In the end, Joyce picked a lovely donkey plushie to take home with her.

There’s nothing sweeter than reminiscing! Our residents were overjoyed to spend time trying retro and “ye olde” sweets. From lemon sherbet to liquorice all sorts, nothing was off limits – our sweet trolley had it all!

There was also stock of ice creams and sugar free sweets so all residents were able to join in with this sweet treat.

Pictured, resident Brian rejoiced as he told Companion Beth: “I haven’t had jelly babies for years!”

We’re incredibly proud to share that Colten Care and four of our exceptional team members have been named finalists in this year’s National Care Awards – one of the UK’s most prestigious celebrations of excellence in care. 💙👏

Our dedicated colleagues have been shortlisted in the following categories:

🏅 Home Manager – Jackie Cash, Home Manager, Braemar Lodge (Salisbury)

And that’s not all…
Colten Care as a group has also been shortlisted in the Home Group Medium category – recognising the dedication and quality delivered across all our homes.

With hundreds of entries each year, reaching the finalist stage is a phenomenal achievement. The winners will be announced at the awards night in London this November – stay tuned!

We are thrilled to announce that The Aldbury was named Home Team of the Year (Bournemouth & Poole) at the 2025 Colten Care Champions last week.

Judges said of our home: “More than just a team – a family. Residents guide everything they do with care, compassion, and love. Known for its fun and lively atmosphere, The Aldbury brings residents, relatives, and staff together to share joyful moments."

We’re also delighted that our amazing Senior Admin David won the Warm Welcome Award! Judges said: “His superpower is helping people instantly feel safe, supported, and confident that nothing is ever too much trouble.”

A huge congratulations to the whole team – your dedication, care, and positivity make The Aldbury such a special place!

Residents at The Aldbury have been painting big and small pebbles to design a caterpillar for our garden.

This has taken a couple of months with Cecil the Caterpillar growing bigger each week. We hope Cecil will be happy in his home and continue to grow here at The Aldbury, ready to say hello to all who visit!

Residents enjoyed a wonderful day out around Poole Harbour on board The Dolphin III, part of The Friends Of Dolphin charity.

Residents Terry, Jeanette, Bridget, and Elsie enjoyed a relaxing day out on the water around Poole Harbour and Browsea Island.

Bridget expressed delight at the trip, telling companions about her travels abroad to Switzerland, whilst Terry reminisced about his time on his cabin cruiser.

Overall, a wonderful time was spent, the bad weather held off and even the sun came to greet us!

Residents at The Aldbury recently enjoyed a lovely afternoon visit from Sox and Caramac the Alpacas. Their owner, Wendy, told us Caramac is named after the chocolate bar, while Sox is short for Socrates, the philosopher.

From hearing them hum to stroking their soft fur, enjoying one-to-one bedroom visits, and taking rides in our lifts, residents and staff were thrilled to have these woolly visitors in our home and can’t wait for them to return soon.

We recently made bookmarks and tried our hand at using a different medium during our latest arts and crafts session. We used nail varnish mixed in water to get a tie-dye effect.

Every one who joined in was very happy with the result, and was delighted to take away a personalised, beautifully designed bookmark.
