⭐ THE MAGIC OF NAPS! ⭐

Did you know daytime naps play a significant role in ensuring a good night's sleep?
Naps and nights go hand in hand!

🌙 By allowing our little ones to take regular naps during the day, we're actually setting the stage for a more restful night's sleep. When babies are overtired they find it challenging to settle down at bedtime and stay asleep at night. The timing and duration of naps are key factors based on your baby's age- of course, each baby is unique so it is important to observe their natural rhythms and sleep cues as well.

💤 Broken nights and early starts in a baby who was previously sleeping well can also be a sign of them needing to transition to fewer naps.

⭐ YOUR BABY, YOUR BUSINESS ⭐

Families are often worried that reaching out for sleep support will mean they need to react to their babies and adapt certain prescriptive behaviours that they may not feel comfortable with.

I work with YOU to help find a solution that works for you. Your baby, your business, your choice. ⭐

⭐ INTRODUCING A GRO CLOCK ⭐

I nearly always recommend these when working with families with toddlers. They are a very effective visual tool to help little ones know when they can get up out of bed in the morning and start the day. 😊
However, success relies on how it is implemented, so here are my tips for getting started!

💤 If you need any support with your little ones sleep, get in touch.

⭐NAPPREHENSION: Anxiety and apprehension surrounding babies nap time.⭐

💤 Can you relate to this?

It usually stems from;
✨ Trying to balance experiences alongside promoting best sleep for your baby.
✨ Commitments for other siblings clashing with baby's nap time.

Feel assured that for a generally well rested baby, a day of broken naps are not going to have much effect long term and you will quickly get back on track. Tomorrow is a new day! Get out there and go with the flow.
Being aware of your baby's sleep needs does not mean restricting yourself to the house and feeling guilt around making plans, babies are surprisingly adaptable!

Similarly, you should feel no guilt in saying no or trying to plan things around your baby's nap time. If that gives you much needed you time then that is all important too.
Life is a balance!

⭐SLEEP TIP⭐

While there is absolutely no guilt involved with rocking and cuddling your little ones to sleep when you choose to, practising putting your baby down to sleep independently can hugely improve their night time sleep. In fact, independent settling plays a huge role in consolidating night time sleep! 💤

⭐Babies who "sleep through the night" actually do wake several times throughout the night, as do we all! It's just that they have the skills to settle themselves BACK to sleep!

Give it a try!

☀️THESE SUMMER NIGHTS (AND DAYS!)

My TOP TIPS for helping your baby to sleep well during these hot summer days:

⭐ Use cotton sheets, a light vest, or a very light sleeping bag for your baby's sleep.
Exactly what baby needs to wear depends on how hot it is in your little one's room. Lightweight sleeping bags (0.2-0.5 togs) are perfect for keeping baby's feeling contained but not too warm.

⭐ Keep baby's bedroom windows open but keep blinds and curtains closed to keep the room as cool as possible.

⭐ Your baby may need more sleep and more milk during the heat. Watch your baby and offer earlier nights or an extra little nap if you feel they need it. Offer extra feeds if necessary.

⭐ Use a circulating fan in your baby's room but not pointed directly at your baby to help keep the air in the room cool. The added bonus is that the fan will add some white noise too! 👍

⭐ A cool or luke warm bath can help baby to cool down.

⭐EARLY MORNING WAKING ⭐

💤 It is so common for babies to go through a stage of early waking and it can be really brutal on us as parents, and can also mean the whole family starts their day way too early!!

💤 It can be one of the trickiest issues to fix as babies are naturally in lighter sleep during those early morning hours- the levels of the sleep hormone, melatonin, are dropping so sleep pressure is reduced meaning it is often the hardest time to resettle them.

💤 The most common cause is overtiredness, but there are other factors too (scroll to see.)

⭐ Identifying the causes of early waking will help you take steps to encourage a later start to the day, and more sleep for you and your family. 😊

⭐DOES YOUR BABY HAVE A COMFORTER?⭐

💙 All of my boys have had a favourite comforter that has been a sleep cue for them since they were babies! My middle boy was less fussed but my eldest who is nearly 7, still sleeps with his and asks for it sometimes when he feels anxious or upset. My littlest who is now 1 seems to love his too! 😍
(Just to add: his comforter is usually kept in his cot for sleep times only but he was feeling playful with it today so I let him practice his pick up put down skills!)

💤 From 6 months of age, a comforter can be a really helpful transitional object for your baby. When offered to your baby at sleep times it can help signal sleep time for them. Once they are used to sleeping alongside it, it can be taken with you when you travel or whenever your baby has to sleep elsewhere and will give your baby some smells and comfort of home, helping them to feel safe and secure.
It can also help with separation anxiety and provide soothing comfort to your baby when they partially wake at night because the object does not change. It is a reassuring constant to their sleep environment!

⭐ TIP: Before introducing a comforter, wear it close to you or under your top for the day so it smells of you when your baby has it. 😍

🌜 In line with safe sleeping guidelines, always choose a comforter that is fit for purpose, and uses breathable safe fabrics (cuddly soft toys are not the same!), and it is not recommended that you use them for babies under 6 months.
