Watch or listen to our 'Life & Loss' podcast series https://www.youtube.com/ or https://linktr.ee/forestholmehospicecharity Forest Holme Hospice provides palliative and end-of life-care and support to more than 1,500 people each year across Poole, Wimborne and the Isle of Purbeck with advanced cancer and other life-limiting illnesses such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson’s, heart disease and respiratory illness. Forest Holme is part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust but still needs to raise £1 million each year so that the team can deliver the highest level of care, when and where it counts. Forest Holme Hospice Charity was set-up to ensure that everyone in the local community affected by life-limiting illness or bereavement gets the care and support they need, either at home or in its dedicated hospice facility. The Charity works together with Macmillan Caring Locally to support the provision of Palliative and End-of-Life Care across the geographical remit of University Hospitals Dorset. The hospice has a team of specialist doctors, nurses, counsellors, complementary therapists and specialist care teams who provide practical and emotional support for adults of all ages and their families in a variety of settings, such as their own home, nursing home, care home, in hospital or in the hospice itself. Forest Holme also offers counselling and bereavement support to both newly diagnosed individuals and family members, as it understands that care extends beyond physical treatment of symptoms, as the emotional, psychological, spiritual and social needs of patients, their families, children and carers all need to be considered. The demand for palliative and end-of-life care is ever increasing as people are living longer and have more complex illnesses, so the Charity relies on local support from individuals, companies and groups to help continue the provision of excellent palliative and end-of-life care to patients and their families during the most difficult time of their lives.

A big shout-out to the wonderful Knit & Natter group who gather every Friday in the Lighthouse Poole café. 🧶
Since 2022, their creativity and kindness along with their weekly donations have helped raise an amazing £1,308.16 for Forest Holme Hospice. They’ve also craft beautiful handmade gifts for our patients and lovely items for our fundraising stalls.

We’d especially like to recognise volunteer Margaret Lewis for her dedication in coordinating the sessions, and Lighthouse Poole for so warmly hosting the group each week. Thank you all for your continued support! 💛

Our annual 12 Days of Christmas activities for patients, families and staff has kicked off with the return of the fabulous Bovington Military Wives Choir to the hospice last week for a beautiful performance in our courtyard garden, led by our very own Dr Kate. ♥

Thank you for coming and enduring the rain, and filling the hospice with joy. 😘

Our wonderful volunteer Mary has written another book, entitled ‘Getting On’, which is a warm collection of stories and poems that reflect on growing older. 📖

Through the sales of her book, she has already raised over £500 for Forest Holme Hospice Charity, and we’re truly grateful for her kindness and support.❤

Mary still has a few copies available for £5 each, so if you’d like one, feel free to send us a message via Facebook.

The Ballard family from Poole will attending the Light Up a Life event tomorrow for the third time since Phil, a husband, father, and grandfather, died of pancreatic cancer at Forest Holme Hospice in 2023.

The Ballard family shared their story in the Bournemouth Daily Echo and said: "Christmas changed forever after losing Phil, so for us, attending Light up a Life has been a comforting reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is light." 🕯

Please join us and the Ballard family tomorrow at 4pm at St James' Church Poole in Old Town Poole.✨

The Ballard family joins Forest Holme Hospice Charity’s Light Up a Life service in Poole, honouring loved ones. Event supports hospice care.
