Let’s talk about silicone pumps 🗣️
Silicone pumps are often marketed as passive milk ‘collectors’ but because they suction to the breast, they are actively removing milk from the breast. This is doing more than just collecting what would otherwise be ‘lost’.
Be aware that by using a silicone pumps they can:
• Remove milk your baby needs during a feed
• Contribute to slow weight gain
• Increase the risk of inflammation (‘clogged ducts’) and can potentially lead to more serious complications such as mastitis.
I would recommend collecting leaking milk but not by using one of these 👇
And not at the expense of your baby receiving what they need whilst actively breastfeeding. Find an alternative that does not rely on suction or use a silicone pump for the ‘third breast’, meaning, the first side baby fed from 🤓
