What do you do to reward yourself?

I set myself the goal of doing at least 20 mins walk per day outside with my reward being a matcha latte on a Friday if I manage to do it everyday.

Not only do I get great satisfaction ticking off my chart, but on the days I’ve felt like giving it a miss, looking at my chart has given the boost I need to get of my ass and go do it! I couldn’t bear to see a gap on the chart or miss out on my reward!

I’ve also signed up for a Conqueror Challenge where you walk a famous route in a set time - and best of all - you get a medal at the end of it! As someone who never received a medal for their sporting prowess, this is again a bit motivator for me!! (I’m currently walking across the Rocky Mountains and am well ahead of schedule)

It may feel childish but all the science says that if you celebrate and reward yourself for your small wins, that’s the best way to form or maintain a habit.

It was great to get back to recording the next series of the podcast today with the fantastic Jude Lennon

We talked about her transition from teacher to published author and her mission to inspire the next generation to read and put pen to paper.

Two years ago today I recorded my first ever podcast with the wonderful

I didn’t really know what I was doing, I’d cobbled together a variety of equipment and we just hit record and see what happened!

It would take me another 11 months to launch the podcast but it’s still one of the best things I’ve ever done.

I can’t wait to get some new episodes recorded and released!!

I was recommended a book called Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert by , the tagline of which is creative living beyond fear.

I’ve started listening to the audio book (read by Elizabeth herself who has a lovely voice) and the first section is on the topic of courage.

She quotes this statement from American poet Jack Gilbert (no relation) and it really struck a chord with me.

Any creative endeavour, well any endeavour that puts yourself out there, takes courage but the rewards are well worth the taking of that first courageous step.

Have you had to deploy some courage to do something different?

It’s the final day of the 8 days of BLISSMAS…

And today S is for SATISFACTION!

Satisfaction isn’t always found in the grand milestones or the loudest victories. Often, it’s in the quiet moments, the smallest joys - a perfecf cup of coffee, the rustle of leaves in the wind, or the smile of someone you love.

When we pause to notice these tiny glimmers of joy, we discover the essence of contentment. True satisfaction isn’t about having it all, it’s about appreciating what we already have.

Take a moment today to soak in the simplicity around you. Gratitude for these little things nurtures a deeper connection to life, where satisfaction and contentment become one and the same.

What’s one small thing that brought you satisfaction today?

Day 7 in the 8 days of BLISSMAS…

And today A is for AWARENESS!

I believe that self-awareness is the foundation of personal growth and meaningful connections.

When you truly understand yourself - your emotions, triggers, strengths, and areas for growth - you gain the power to make intentional choices.

Instead of being reactive, you become proactive, creating a life aligned with your values and goals.

Self-awareness isn’t about perfection; it’s about curiosity and honesty with yourself.

Meditation is great tool for improving self-awareness as we have to sit with our thoughts rather than distracting ourselves to avoid that reflection. It also creates the mental space to choose our reaction to any given situation.

Take a moment today to reflect. Ask yourself:

💭 What am I feeling right now?
💭 How do my actions align with my intentions?
💭 What lessons can I learn from my experiences?

Day No.6 in the 8 days of BLISSMAS…

And today M is for MOTIVATION!

It’s New Year’s Day so your social media feeds are probably awash with all the ‘New Year, New You’ malarkey.

Only 16% of people succeed with maintaining a New Year’s Resolution throughout the year and that’s because the nature of resolutions doesn’t align with how our brains work.

This year I intend to focus on what motivates me in all aspects of life and I’m hoping this broader view will be the path to achieving my goals.

What’s your motivation for 2025?

Day No.5 in the 8 days of BLISSMAS ...

And today S is for STRENGTH!

Bob Marley once said, “You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice.” And boy, has that been true for me this year!

Sometimes, strength is simply about digging deep and pushing through turbulent times. But it’s also about recognising that even when the storm passes, those challenges leave their mark—and that’s okay.

I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the whole “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” saying. No one wants to go through tough times just to build resilience. But life has a way of throwing curveballs, and strength is what helps us navigate them, even when the waters aren’t smooth.

What has been your biggest moment of strength in 2024?

I’m just about coming up for air after the recent passing and funeral of my mum.

Like every unexpected challenge in life, there have been good days and bad days but it has been really interesting from a personal perspective to sit with the feelings as they have arisen and notice how different this feels to the passing of my dad 16 years ago, before I had done all the work I have on myself.

I didn’t know it was possible to have so many thoughts and emotions going on at once but I’ve tried to give myself the grace to go with the flow of these feelings.

The most overriding sense I have at the moment is that my heart feels wide open, acutely aware of the pain there can be in the world. I’ve read many spiritual texts about opening your heart but until know I think I only understood these from an intellectual perspective, not an experiential one.

This creates its own energy and I have been bolstered by the overwhelming sense of love I’ve felt from friends and strangers alike.

Yesterday, I walked the dog to the coffee shop with my daughter and at least 10 different people I’ve never met before stopped to chat which gave me an immense sense of connection to the world.

I am curious to see how this influences the next chapter of my life as I get to grips with both my parents having now gone.
